First, I am lost at sea. Generally you are lost, the "at Sea" is a just a descriptor.

I think you can be lost at sea without being a castaway. You can be on a boat, and have no clue where you are, or which direction to go, making you lost at sea. The castaway thing comes in to play only when you find yourself with only a volley ball for a friend (sup spalding?)
