I keep the local Cadillac dealer in business as well as own stock the local mall. I gave blood recently for the first time. No, I think it's more to try to get people involved in their communities. Our company does a lot in the Cincinnati area already.

corporate charity is more for pr. many charitable orgs burn up the contributions in admin and marketing costs (united way).
as with most ventures keep big business or govt out and real people benefit.

Agreed. The company's charity stuff is typically in press releases. I think the owners like helping charities etc, but it's most definitely for pr purposes as well.
