Different argument. Start another thread if you want to debate the existence of supreme beings.

I'm a practicing atheist. However, there's nothing wrong with putting that aside occasionally to look closely at any religion, to question.

that whole article is a good read.
What's even better are some of the gospels that the catholic church regected when it sat down to put together the first bible. There are tons of them that shed light on alot of the missing aspects of the bible.. I've got alot of them if you ever want to read'um.

I was raised catholic, my uncle is a Bishop, I went through first communion, confirmation, all that. I haven't sat down and read the bible, but I know the dogma well enough. I also know that the bible is so hugely obtuse that reading it is not guaranteed to settle anything for anyone.

Given that, and putting logical thought to the problem of heavenly deities, I went ahead and ruled out religion for myself. Not just christianity, but islam, judaism, the greek, nordic, and japanese pantheons too. All of them.

However, I remain very interested in religious mythology, and if I had my druthers, I would major in comparative religious studies.

fair enough. I find myself to be a believer, but not in organized religion. The church in general has outgrown it's own usefullness.

Agreed.

I think the large problem with churches is that they are run, in the end, by men. And I don't care who you are, you're not perfect. And so churches end up being more about one man's prejudices and beliefs - one a small scale with parish churches, or a large scale with the pope - than about god.
