Life

One day
I awoke in a dark place
I was surrounded by something soft and warm
I knew not where I was
I could hear a rhythmic thumping
The sound of a heartbeat
Considerably louder than my own
I knew not where I was
I knew not what I was
I knew not my own name
Did I even have a name?
I knew not where I was
I suddently felt cold
The warmth that surrounded me was gone
I could hear screaming
I knew not where I was
The noises were getting louder
I could see a light
I must try to reach the light
I knew not where I was
The light grew brighter
The noises were getting louder still
I could feel myself moving
I knew not where I was
Something was pushing me
Towards the light
And then the most wonderous thing happened
I knew not where I was
But I was content
The noises had stopped
The screaming was over
I knew not where I was
But I had been born.
Alive.
