My four year old is fine. My six year old is going to be a problem. If we would let him, he would watch TV or play video games all day, every day. On weekdays no "screen time" until after school and homework, weekends we let them play in the morning, but not until 7:00 am. He comes into our room every weekend at exactly 7:00 am and then goes down to the TV. Yes, this is also the one that used to flap.

I don't find anything wron with those TV players for long trips. We are buying one, but the TV will not go on unless we are travelling for a great distance. It's not like an airplane, where you can entertain your kids. You are all stuck in seatbelts. I don't like even giving my kid food when we are driving.

we use the TV on long trips only. We also make it a point to skip TV once a week...

well, my kid isn't all that interested in the TV at the best of times. And if it's out of sight, it's out of mind. I'll turn the TV up into the storing space, and if she asks for it, I'll tell her it's "gone." I have a pretty reasonable child that way. After more than two years with a child in the backseat, I am able to drown out whining, should it come to that. Hell, I'll just put hockey on and she will be thrilled.
