apart from one of my sisters trying to run me over, and holding a knife to my neck when I was 14, my family wasn't that violent. I just don't get along with them, I don't "get" them and they don't understand me. I try to stay away from them, it makes life easier for everyone.

Sounds like you just need to be honest and come out of the closet and get it over with. Chances are they already suspect anyhow. You arent fooling anyone here and we dont even really know you.

Its weird. After not talking to any of them for 5 years there is this uneasy truce (except for the aforementioned psycho sister whom I plan to never speak to again). Everyone is polite, but its like sitting at a table in one of those restaurants where they sit you with strangers. No one is really interested, they're just making casual conversation and being careful not to dig too deep.
