WWII wasn't just about race. In Mein Kampf, Hitler talked about how he hated everything about the Jews, including Judaism. The current conflict in the Middle East has a lot to do with religion. A lot of bloodshed could have been prevented if religion had never come into existence. More examples: The Crusades, the Inquisitions, the Salem Witch Trials,, the Thirty Years' War, 9/11 and the following war, the suicide bombings that go on in the Middle East, the fight over the Danish cartoons of Mohammed, the fight over Salman Rushdie's book.... It's really hard to imagine someone going back in time and preventing religion from coming into being and these wars being fought over something else. Hatred and violence towards abortion and homosexuality are rooted in the interpretation of the Bible. Of course, not all wars and all bloodshed are the product of religion. Religion, though, causes a lot of conflict.

Without religion, I don't think the world would be a sudden utopia, either. But, we might eliminate a huge thing that we argue about.

I agree mostly. You can see religion coming from a lack of understanding of things in early civilizations that was bound to happen.I don't think if religion ever existed we would have any less of a bloody history. We would have fought on ethnic lines rather then religious ones or nationalism type of disputes that would have been just as horrific as the crusades.Human nature is to dominate others and religion was just a tool in all of that. What can you say about the teachings of christ that you disagree with?Me not much but it was perverted to suit the needs of those in power. With religion or without human nature leads to some ugly things.

There'd be no circumcision either Cucumber.

I agree that we would end up fighting a lot about race instead, but to the same degree I wonder?

That's an interesting debate in itself. Do fundamentalists believe that God creates perfect life? If so, do they disagree with circumcision?

Another thing I have noticed about many relgions: they are against abortion, but very much for taking adult life.

Pre human understanding of evolution I have no doubt it would have been just as bad.

From then on meaning right now probably not.Look at the Irish situation. That was a religious conflict at its heart for centuries but as the church lessened its grip on the society its calmed down.

Only real wars or conflicts left fought on religious grounds are by uneducated people and I include GW Bush in the statement you whore.

The same Bush who opposes abortion but oversaw more executions than any other president ?

What is your definition of "immoral"?

I mean, if you don't have a set code of what is right and what is wrong, then how do you label something as either moral or immoral? I love you.

Legality, human nature, core family values, do unto others...., formal education in a public school, the media, university training -all these things contibuted to the development of my moral compass.

Well, you realize that most of what is contained in the laws, family values, do unto others, public schools, etc came from the moral values taught by religion?
