Report: Tuberville Leaving Auburn For Arkansas
#1

Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville is leaving to become the next head coach at Arkansas, the Fayateville television KNWA is reporting.

KNWA cites multiple sources, but it does leave some wiggle room in its report, saying, "There is still a chance the situation can change but KNWA firmly believes the Auburn coach has agreed to take over for Houston Nutt."

Tuberville was born and raised in Arkansas and played football at Southern Arkansas. He was the head coach at Ole Miss for four years before leaving to coach Auburn.

The report that Tuberville will leave Auburn comes just hours after listeners to Tuberville's weekly radio show heard him say, "I'm not looking to go anywhere."

-------------------------
I like Tuberville. He is a solid coach and if you are ranked in the top 10 and playing auburn (road or home) then you know his team will show up.

Coaching musical chairs is horrible for players/recruits.

that's fucking crazy. arkansas isn't nearly the job that auburn is. but I'd love to see him do it to auburn after the shit the administration did to him a few years ago

edit: rumors had him going to texas a&m for a while too, which would also be a step down. there aren't many jobs in the country as good as auburn

The only reason I can see him wanting to leave Auburn is his whole season rides on beating Alabama. If he loses that game he's a failure for the whole year no matter what they do.I think Arkansas is a step down to but I think he'd have an easier road there to be considered succesful.

he's won the last 6 against 'bama. plus from what I hear the guy is a machine, runs the team like a CEO and thrives on the pressure. the reason for wanting to leave is he grew up in and has a lot of ties still to the state. the reason for actually making such a dipshit decision would have to be either money, in which case I'd think auburn has the upper hand if they want to keep him (and they do), or to stick it to auburn for fucking around with petrino behind his back, which I think he's probably gotten past by now

I don't get why so many coaches feel compelled to "return home" and coach at their alma mater. Right now, LSU is a better job than Michigan, imo...why would Miles want to leave? Ditto Auburn/Ark.

Right now LSU is a better job but not historically.Michigan is a top 5 all time college program.Way better job than LSU.

miles will go where the money is. a bidding war between LSU/michigan could get pretty steep, michigan probably has the edge. stupid to let it be a distraction and lose last weekend though, that'll cost him a few bucks. all other things equal though, he heads north back home. see above for tubbs

I go to Montgomery for business every so often and what I figure is he doesnt want to compete to be top dog in the state he just wants to be top dog in the state without worrying about beating someone.I'm sure his agent still remembers the Petrino thing.Alabama will be back to being as good as or better than them soon.

Obviously Michigan is better historically, but so was Nebraska.

You never know.

They said today Nick Saban has said he'd be interested in returning to LSU.. now thats funny.

What I find comical on the whole LSU front is all these people want to return "home". LSU fans think they are the best university ever... and yet they don't have any good coaches that they can get to "return home". LSU has been a stepping stone for coaches to get the jobs they want.

I think he's got bigger ambition than just taking it easy and coasting in the boondocks

Than if he's talking about leaving its got to be about sticking it to the university for looking around while he was coach.

depends on the criteria you're judging by. history? michigan>lsu/auburn>arkansas/texas a&m. current prestige? then lsu is measurably ahead of auburn on that list, but not by a ton. availability of players? auburn probably beats out michigan. salary? that's where the bulk of the decision will be made by the two guys we're talking about here.

I agree with you above that ND, USC, and mich are the top historical programs in college football. I'd probably put alabama, oklahoma, texas, and ohio state in the same class, but rank those guys 1a if you want. those teams are also pretty consistently good year in and year out, although I love seeing ND shit the bed. are those the best 7 jobs in college coaching? if they are (big if), then right behind them are another 5-10 programs with big budgets, very good or great facilities, tremendous fan support, and athletes waiting at the gate to get in. florida state, florida, miami, auburn, tennessee, uga, penn state, nebraska, maybe wisonsin? and some others I'm not thinking of (to tell the truth, I threw nebraska and wisky in there so I didn't seem so southeast biased). is auburn a better job than penn state or fsu? can I get your list?
