Talked to some friends yesterday...

Which people have no food, water or shelter right now due to this disaster?

Also when are you going to answer my question on who said oil was the devil?Let me guess...you just went with your gut on that and assumed everyone's against you. That not paranoid! The best part of this is you, the white guy, have now turned into the "everyone's out to get me" minority that you used to laugh at.

I've got a college buddy that runs an offshore fishing service on the border of Louisiana and Mississippi. He is begging for people to come fishing. He said he has 5 bookings for the month of June and normally has 50. He said this is 10 times worse on his business than Katrina was.

He said the only upside to it was that he was renting some of his fishing cabins to media people, but even that has died off.

I think he meant do a benefit for the people that have lost their livlihood until this leak is stopped and the mess is cleaned up. Its not like a hurricane, where the next day you just rebuild. These people that rely on the fishing industry are dying down there.

Which have none right now? They all do. Which won't have any when they can't pay their bills next month or for that fact the rest of the year? Alot.

No one specifically said "oil is the devil"... it was a thinly veiled Waterboy shout out. You can not tell me however that Obama is pro oil. Sure he takes the money they donate but he is not 100% pro oil like some presidents were.

I'm glad you're speaking for him.

We all agree Obama had no role in the leak starting and has very little control over it stopping. So how is he leaving those people hanging out to dry?

BP made 163 BILLION in profits from 2001 to 2009.Maybe they can chip in and help those fishermen who are out of work?I bet money 8 has a problem with that.

BP made 163 BILLION in profits.Have them pay.Its their mess.Cry me a river you fucking baby.Blame Obama, that makes sense.

Agian you just assume things and all your arguments have no facts behind them. This is why you had to run from the other thread. You can't sustain an argument without some basis of facts.

I think the best thing to do is shut down all offshore drilling that way the whole gulf coast will feel the pinch. We wouldn't want commercial fisherman, charter boats and the likes to carry the burden. Lets cut off deep water drilling so that thousands will feel the affects of an accident.

So what should Obama be doing that he isnt?

1. Get the leak stopped.

2. Keep the oil away from the commercial fishing waters.

3. Set up some kind of temporary compensation system for the thousands of people that have lost their source of income.

4. Start laying out a timeline for when this will be cleaned up and over with.

5. Educate the American people on what areas are affected, how much they are affected, where its headed, when it will get there? I'm sure there are tons of businesses that have lost their income stream, and yet they are not even affected yet. Tourist locations, beaches, fishing camps, etc. People don't know where to go or where is safe. I would imagine no one is planning a vacation to the gulf coast right now because they don't know what the fuck is going on.

6. Show some goddamn leadership and compasion and understanding. He should be down there every chance he gets.

How's that?

“When government grows too big, it doesn't do its core functions properly,” he said. “Absolutely, I believe in a limited government that is effective and competent in what it does. We need federal government exactly -- we need our federal government exactly for this kind of crisis.”

Any idea who said this?

I definitely agree. I think that BP should set up some kind of "Relief Fund". But its going to have to be the government to oversee it and disperse the money. Otherwise, its just going to be a total cluster fuck.

Maybe BP can explain it to them so they can figure out how it works. Or they could call in the guy that directed that movie Wall Street, because I hear he has a lot of financial knowledge.
