where is the crime again??

cratch:
I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk. A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind. A need to return to genuine practice, right effort. Need to push on the great doubt. Need for the spirit. Hang on to the clear light.

Convicted serial killer Anthony Kirkland pleaded for his life Tuesday before the Hamilton County jurors that will decide his fate for murdering Casonya "Sharee" Crawford and Esme Kenney.
"I do not blame you if you kill me," Kirkland said reading from a prepared statement. "I don't deserve to live, but please spare my life."
Prosecutors are urging jurors to recommend that Kirkland die by lethal injection. Defense attorneys and Kirkland himself are seeking a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
"They say I am evil. They say I am evil and a monster," Kirkland read. "They're right. Ever since I was little, everyone said I was bad. Even my mom hated me, but I don't blame her. I even hated me."
Jurors found Kirkland guilty Friday for murdering Crawford in 2006 and Kenney in 2009. He previously pleaded guilty to the 2006 slayings of Mary Jo Newton and Kimya Rolison.
"I know that my words mean nothing and I am responsible for the death of those four young ladies," Kirkland told the jurors. "I do not even know why I did it. I get so angry and cannot stop myself. I know it's no excuse. I hope I am locked away forever. I should never get out and I won't. I have hurt so many people with these four murders. I do not ask for, nor expect any forgiveness for it. I don't deserve forgiveness."
Kirkland thanked his attorneys for their efforts, saying they've done all they can to help him.
"But, they cannot change what I did," he continued. "I cannot believe how horrible I am. I will never forget or rest or be at peace, nor should I."
Why did he confess to the four murders after being arrested in the Kenney case?
"I wanted it to stop," he said as tears began to fill his eyes. "I didn't want to hurt -- anyone -- anymore."
Forensic psychologist Dr. Scott Bresler testified earlier in the day that Kirkland suffers from an anti-social personality disorder that had its roots in a violent, sadistic biological father.
Still, neither Dr. Bresler nor defense attorney Norm Aubin offered that as an excuse.
"I cannot stop the rage and the anger and make the bad Anthony go away," Kirkland stated.
Jurors were given four sentencing options by Judge Charles Kubicki, Jr. -- life in prison without parole for 25 years, life in prison without parole for 34 years, life in prison without parole and death.
In opening statements, Hamilton County Prosecutor reminded panel members to follow the law.
"Our case is done because you have already found him guilty of the aggravating circumstances," Deters said. "If you're sure aggravating circumstances outweigh mitigating factors the law says you shall recommend the death penalty."
Defense attorney Norm Aubin bluntly laid out his case.
"You have to decide whether that man, Anthony Kirkland, lives or dies," Aubin said. "There are no excuses or justifications for what he did. We'll present an explanation, but no excuses."
"Anthony Kirkland wasn't always the man in this courtroom," Aubin continued. "He had a rough childhood. He was troubled by the time he was 10 and by 18 he was in prison for the first time."
Again, Aubin said that's not an excuse -- just an explanation of why things happened.
"We're asking for the harshest penalty short of death," he added.
Closing arguments in the penalty phase of the trial are slated for Wednesday morning, then jurors will begin their life or death deliberations.

They did a psych evaluation and it came back with normal intelligence and was found fit to stand trial. Now, I don't know what his IQ is- clearly, he suffered a lot of abuse growing up, but then again so do a lot of people- and they don't end up killing other people. Same goes for if he is mentally handicapped. There are a lot of mentally handicapped people out there that don't kill. As far as the death penalty recommendation- I guess we'll see what the judge determines at the end of the month.
