Stop cancer with AIDS
#1

Well, not exactly. But some scientist type dudes have
Quote:

genetically altered HIV and folded it into an envelope made of another virus called sindbis, which typically infects insects and birds. That turned the altered HIV into a missile that hunted down metastasized melanoma cells in the lungs of living mice.

"People might wonder if it's scary to use HIV as a therapy," said Irving Chen, who led the UCLA team. "But in actuality we have completely removed 80 percent of the virus. So really it's just a carrier."

I understand its safe and all, I'm just not sure how I feel about you injecting me with a potentially uncurable disease.

Doctor: Leu I have some good news and some bad news.

Leu: Oh geez Doc. Well, give me the bad news first.

Doctor: You have cancer.

Leu: Cancer? OMG! Not cancer! Please, what is the good news.

Doctor: Well, here are the directions to the Pharoh of the Fairy Bath House. Go there and ask for Stu. He will give you an rectal injection that may cure the cancer.

Leu: Sweet. This cancer isn't so bad is it?

Doctor: I thought this would cheer you up.

Study was done at the UCLA Aids Institute, published in the Feb. 13 issue of Nature Medicine. Here's the link to the article

Yeah but really what have you got to lose?

If it goes well, you're cancer free and HIV free (assuming you started that way).

If it half works you're cancer free, but now have HIV. Nothing much has changed.

If it doesn't work, you still have cancer, and may or may not have HIV.

chemo is not fun.. and you can relapse. I'd be interested to hear relapse chances with the HIV cure.

And lets not forget, your chances of contracting HIV here are probably a fraction of a percentage.

that is still hard to believe. If they inject you with the HIV virus then, to me, that is signing a death warrant.

well, its not the pure HIV virus. Its a genetically altered version of HIV that is delivered inside of another virus called sindbis which normally infects birds and insects. So in theory, even if that HIV was more complete it is being delivered in an envelope that wouldn't attack you body, it goes after a protein in the mutated cancer cells. So you should be good.

Of course, I don't understand the details of genetic therapy

I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk.  A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind.  A need to return to genuine practice, right effort.  Need to push on the great doubt.  Need for the spirit.  Hang on to the clear light.
