Sorry 8, Bird is kicking your ass on this one. I think only a complete moron would be pushing for more drilling until they can come up with a satisfactory plan to avoid this same situation again.
And you comparing it to planes, or cars, or whatever is stupid. Anytime there is a plane crash and they trace it to a part or an inspection mistake they ground every fucking plane similar to it until they can replace the part or go through a new inspection process.
How long did we not have a space shuttle fly after that first one crashed? it was years and years.

There are things in place to prevent this from happening. It just happened to fail this time. This is a first therefore the oil companies will know what works and what doesn't should this ever happen again. They are basically letting BP be the guinea pig here. I agree we should not be drilling until this well is capped.... I just think its crazy to shut it down completely for the end of the year. It jacks up everyone's projections. Louisiana will obviously suffer the most from this.

Just so I'm clear.BP should only have to "chip in" to pay for this mess and new projects are safe to go forward because there are things in place that just happened to fail but won't next time. Its clear you have all Louisianians best interest in mind.

Posted a link to those pics on my fb yesterday. Fucking disgusting.
I was thrilled to see that in the wake of all this bullshit our Premier (think Governor) wants to trot down the same path.

I saw a pretty good 20/20 special last night on the oil leak. They said (which has been posted already) that BP was paying another company to drill the well for them. BP was in charge, and then they rent the crew and oil rig that drills the hole. BP pays this company to drill the well, and then cap it on the ocean floor. Then it stays like that with a big concrete cap and a Valve for how ever long it is until BP decides to connect to the valve and start pumping the oil.
The subcontractor gets paid $500,000 per day to drill the well. BP had gotten really crossways with that company in the past few weeks (before the leak) because they were 3 weeks behind schedule and it was costing BP that half million per day. The overrun was getting out of hand, so BP was putting pressure on them to get the well finished and capped.
I think they were at the point of putting the cap on the well when they got a burst of methane gas that caught fire on the platform and blew out the valve on the ocean floor.
So, I think they are going to find that this accident was caused by human error and not so much mechanical failure. Sort of like a plane crashing without any problems in the plane, just pilot error trying to do something it shouldn't do.

Notice the outrage over Obama not doing anything has died down? Not because he's actually doing anything but more because all those ranting babies who were looking for him to put a wet suit on and fix it himself have cried themselves out and now are faced with the reality of what the situation always was.A man made disaster that no president can snap his fingers and fix.

8, isn't it interesting how so many Gulf state Republicans are anti-big government -- until they need its help?

are you serious? that's all I have been hearing about. on all of the major news networks. i don't think that you have even begun to hear the outcry about how slow the government has been to respond and how weak their response has been. I think the fact that the government pretty much just said "BP its your fault you fix it. We demand you. And make it right for everyone" without actually making sure everything was done that could possibly be done to protect the coastlines, the wildlife, and the ecosystems along the gulf is going to become the overriding factor in this whole "man made disaster" (as you like to constantly remind everyone).
As if there is a difference in damage from a manmade disaster vs a natural one. But, yeah I know you have to spin it that way so it doesn't make the Bush haters feel stupid after how they tried to turn katrina into the holocaust.
