A MAN died while executing a twisted plot to win custody of his child, myFOXdfw.com reports.
According to Dallas Police investigators, 20-year-old Dwayne Lamont Moten hired a friend to shoot him, intending to blame the crime on his wife's boyfriend and gain custody of his three-year-old son, Dwayne Jr.
"[This] was two individuals trying to frame a third individual," Senior Corporal Kevin Janse said.
Sr. Cpl. Janse said the plan was that Jacob Wheeler, also 20, would shoot Mr Moten but only injure him.
However, the bullets that struck Mr Moten on Saturday fatally wounded the forlorn father.
Mr Wheeler was charged with murder and an unrelated aggravated robbery charge. He remained in jail on a $US750,000 ($850,436) bond.
