Miss Beatrice, The church organist
#1

Miss Beatrice,
The church organist,
Was in her eighties
And had never been married.
She was admired for her sweetness
And kindness.
One afternoon, the pastor
Came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room.
She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.

As he sat facing her old Hammond organ,
The young minister noticed a cute glass bowl sitting on top of it.
The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom!

When she returned
With tea and scones,
They began to chat.

The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity
about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist.

'Miss Beatrice', he said,
'I wonder if you would tell me about this?'
Pointing to the bowl.

'Oh, yes,' she replied, 'Isn't it wonderful?
I was walking through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground.
The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet, and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu All winter'

I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk.  A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind.  A need to return to genuine practice, right effort.  Need to push on the great doubt.  Need for the spirit.  Hang on to the clear light.

Miss Beatrice had a problem with her gate going into the backyard. Old man Taylor from across the street came over one morning to help. After examining the problem he gave Miss Beatrice a list of things he would need from the hardware store.

When she got to the hardware store and waited on someone to help her she noticed this shiny brass tea pot up high on a shelf. She couldn't take her eyes off of it. Finally a young man came over and asked if he could help her. She said, "Well, that tea pot up there. How much is it?"

The man looked up and said, "Oh that is $35". Surprised, Miss Beatrice shook her and and pulled out her list and said, "Oh my, well I just need a few things to fix my gate". The man took the list and he would get what she needed and he went to the back of the store.

While he was gone, she kept looking at that tea pot. She couldn't believe it cost $35.

After a few minutes she heard a voice from the back of the store holler out "Miss Beatrice, would you like a screw for those hinges?"

She thought a minute and replied, "No thank you, but I would for that tea pot"
