I was in a Texas Hold'em tourney sat night at my neighbors. They had 2 tables with 16 guys (8 per table). We played until the table I was at was down to 6 players left and the other table was down to 1. Yep, 1 guy had all of the chips from the other table. So he sat down at our table.
It cost $50 to buy into the tournament. 3rd place was going to get $50 back, 2nd place $100, and 1st place the rest (about $650 I think, because one guy bought back in before the blinds went up the second time)
Anyway, I managed to stay in until there were 3 of us left. Me and the other guy had about equal chips and then the one guy had a huge stack that joined from the other table.
I got dealt a 9, 10. Since there were only 3 of us, and I was the small blind, I called the blind and stayed for the flop. The flop was J, 8, 7 (all diamonds). I had the 9 of diamonds and had a straight on the flop. Rather than bet them out by going all in, I wanted more than the blinds at this point so I passed. They also passed.
Next card was another diamond. So now I've got 4 diamonds and a straight. Now the bets get big, from the other guys. So, I'm calling, still thinking I have this wrapped up. Or at the least, I'm thinking that I have the high diamond with a 9. There are only 3 cards in the deck that could beat me (Q, K A) or diamonds. And neither guy was betting in the beginning, so I don't think either have that high of a card.
We play it out and sure enough one of those pricks had the Q of diamonds and beat my straight.

That hand knocked out the other guy that was short stacked so that just left me (with nearly nothing. I had about $7 in chips, and blinds were $4 and $2). The other guy had all of the remaining chips (about $700).
Anyway, I start getting some decent hands and I'm going all in before any flops. And I start to win a little. If this guy get a hand at all, I was folding. About an hour later, I had climbed back up to about even with him. I was getting some pretty lucky hands.
Then I get dealt a K A. So, I passed. He get pretty big. I waited. Finally I matched his bet. They flop a 4, 7, K. So now I've got 2 Kings and an Ace kicker. I passed the bet.
He goes all in. I waste no time and go all in. I had him.
He has 7, 8. His stomach sank when I turn over K, A. The next card is J. The last card is 8 and he has two fucking pair.
I just pushed him my chips and let him have it. I think I would have had enough chips to keep going, but no way was I going to go through that again.
