Lollapalooza, the travelling music festival that laid the groundwork for Alternative music's rise in the 1990s, is back, albeit in a much smaller form this year. Lollapalooza 2005 will be held in Chicago's Grant Park July 23-24.
Billboard is claiming that Beck, the Killers, Kings Of Leon and Widespread Panic are a few of the scheduled acts set to appear, but no confirmation of this is available. The festival's Web site (
http://www.lollapalooza.com) is to be updated with more information this Friday, April 1.
But the date for the site to go live is awfully suspect (April Fool's Day). However, the Hollywood Reporter indicates that William Morris Agency's Marc Geiger, who booked the festival in its heyday, as well as the ill fated 2004 version (which was cancelled due to either poor ticket sales or the fact that headliner Morrissey backed out at the last minute, depending on who you believe) is working on the Chicago shows. Perry Farrell, ex of Jane's Addiction, and the spiritual leader of Lollapalooza, is also said to be on board in a creative capacity. Also involved is Capitol Sports & Entertainment, a firm out of Austin, Texas that works on the Austin City Limits Festival. Though the Hollywood Reporter indicates that William Morris Agency declined comment, and that no one from Capital Sports & Entertainment did not return a call.
