I like the move.They were never winning with the pieces they traded.Dantoni doesnt preach defense anyway so that won't matter.They arent winning it this year but it makes them better.If they can get Chris Paul or Deron Williams then they will be contenders.

I think they put themselves into the conversation of getting to the eastern conference finals.Thats pretty good compared to where they were(1st rd win at best).Then take in the fact that they will be getting a chris paul or other piece to make them better in the off season and the trades looking like a good step in the right direction.

bird, opinion on this new trend of super teams? is it good for the game for superstars to be forcing their way onto teams with each other?

It's not good in the long run for the NBA if those teams win.Right now the Heat are floundering and the Knicks are still a pickup away from a "super team" so the juries still out on if it will work and teams will try to copy it or build teams from the ground up like OK City and Chicago.

If it does work and say Miami wins its not going to help grow the league and will hurt cities like Milwaukee and Charlotte.I think like most leagues the NBA needs to lose a team or two (definitely New Orleans) so maybe if that happens there's enough talent to have your super teams and competitive teams to make up a healthy league.If not it's going to turn into baseball where we all know going into the year that barring a miracle teams like the Royals can't win it all which is gay.

In the short run it will be good.As I've stated the eastern conference finals will be awesome and this will probably be the best playoffs in years.That said in a basketball savvy crowd like Philly even though the sixers are two games over 500 and have a nice squad that plays hard there is little to no buzz around the city because we all know the best we can hope for is a first round playoff upset so crowds stay away from a winning team.

From the talk on the radio... the labor situation will prevent these super teams from taking place. It sounds like the NBA will almost definitely lock out.

It will lock out but thats only because the owners know that the NBA players union is the weakest of all 4 major sports(feeling generous to hockey this morning).This is what happened 30 days into the last lockout.






that being said how do you stop guys from taking less money to go where they want when they are a free agent?They already have the Bird rule(not to be confused with the BIRD33 rule which is not fat chicks before 3AM) where teams can sign their stars for more money than another team.It would require some rating system which used to be money that limited the amount of 4 star guys on one team.Not sure the NBA is totally against what they have now so I doubt anything changes on that front.

I always wondered what happened to Kemp... he was a monster in Seattle... then he just BLEW up. I mean even shaq keeps his weight down a bit compared to Kemp....

He had\has? a coke problem.I tried to find the picture from the last lockout where the players themselves organized a charity game I guess to create sympathy for the players union and Kemp showed up 100 lbs over weight in a fur coat.Its guys like that who have 5 kids from 4 different woman that make a long lockout unlikely.
