looks like the SEC wants Texas or Oklahoma, but thinks A&M is a more realistic option.

Kansas needs to beg the Big 10 or whatever the fuck they'll call themselves to get in. It's a strong basketball conference, geographically fits, and even Northwestern manages to win a few football games.

That signals that the Big 12 Conference will - for now - remain intact with 10 teams.

Carlton reports factors that apparently contributed to the Big 12 staying together:

Under Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe’s plan, Texas would see a sharp increase in revenue under a new cable TV right deal with Fox Sports.

Because of the Big 12’s revenue sharing formula, Texas would probably make more than the $17 million average, perhaps close to $20 million. The Longhorns would also be allowed to form their own network, something that would not be allowed in the Pac-10.

A source said the network could eventually produce up to $5 million in revenue based on projections, which would likely bring Texas more money than a move to the Pac-10.

Another reason the conference remained intact was team travel, especially without the possibility of Texas A&M, despite the Pac-10’s hope to focus on divisional travel and avoid numerous distant road trips to the Northwest.

Yeah it seems the Big 12 got rescued yesterday. Funny though, now the Big 12 has 10 teams and the Big 10 has 12 teams.

I'd like to see the Big 12 take in Arkansas and TCU. I can't figure out why TCU hasn't been yacking it up to try to squeeze into the Big 12.

The North teams wouldn't allow it. Now with Nebraska gone, it may happen someday. The Big 12 will be going through this shit again in a few years. The University of Texas are a bunch of snakes, powerful snakes. Commissioner Beebee needs to be fired. Hopefully the teams that are left from the North stick together and challenge Texas on some of their bullshit. They became one of my most hated teams over the last month. Fuck them.

Welcome to my world. I've been hating texas for a long long time.

The other thing about the "new" Big 12 (with 10 teams) is that the championship game between the north and south is gone. You can't have a conference championship with less than 12.

Yeah, the whole thing sucks. They have the other schools by the balls.

I just saw this last night. Incredible. I've heard that the Texas government were going to step in to make A&M stay with Texas but the AD and President made the deal before they had to. There is a lot of pissed off A&M fans right now. I hate it that my team is dependent on Texas but there is really no other way about it until they can make themselves more attractive to other conferences, if that ever happens.

What I'm hearing is Texas didnt want to go to the Pac 10 because the travel and the fact that they want to have their own TV network which the Pac 10 already has as a conference.Supposedly they won't be in the Big 12 in 3 years once they get that network established.A & M is a fool to stick by them and not go to the SEC.Hell Texas might take their SEC spot in 3 years.
