JCW made me think about this with her comment about Twain being a raging alcoholic. It seems that a lot of really great writers have drinking problems. I am now thinking that the problem isn't that I am a shitty writer, but that I don't have a big enough drinking problem.
Any ideas on how I can go about becoming a high functioning alcoholic? I don't want to end up such a drunk that all I can do is post on message boards all day like they're the be all and end all, so this needs a careful approach.
TIA

From what I've seen, you're supposed to put it in a water bottle so everyone thinks you're being healthy and drinking water when in reality, you're getting gooned at 9:30am.

Do some coke. A lot of people really like to drink when they're on that shit.

Or break up with your girlfriend and get into a deep, dark depression. Or just get drunk and start banging as many chicks as you can. Give yourself a goal. The more drunk you (and they) are, the more likely you'll reach said goal. Not only will you get trashed enough to write, you'll also be getting laid. It's a win win situation.

Doesn't coke make you paranoid? I'm already pretty sure about 3 people are following me around on forums. Not to mention that Ford Focus that parks next to me every fucking day

Whiskey always cleared up writers block for me. Or acid. Not at the same time though.

See I bought me some 18yr old Glenfiddich (cause it has to be legal age, right?) and had some before and during writing every night, and all I ever really got was sleepy.

Whiskey is good sappy and/or sad/depressing song writing stuff. Acid is the fucked up song writing.

Could always go the Samuel Taylor Coleridge route and go with opium.

I don't like coffee either.
Opium could work, though I will admit, I'm not a fan of it personally.
