This story alerted me that Hockey season was in full swing when I saw it.

Obviously what he said was classless but you've got to love that he had the balls to say it.I think its ridiculous that he got suspended for it.Is the word sloppy seconds a curse word or something? He only stated a fact.Doesnt the NHL need guys to be making national headlines like this to gain some interest?I think its good for the game.

Some intergrity in sportsmanship is expected and required. Have you followed his inane actions? He's an ongoing side-show freak. No one is amused by him any more. Even the team mangement supposts the NHL's decision to suspend him. What's next for this guy? "Yo momma" jokes?

I have been following him.Now that I think of it he's my favorite player I guess.I thought him standing in front of the goalie was genius. How many people think of something like that where the league needs to change the rules mid playoff game?Thats hilarious. He seems to be the only entertaining guy in the league.

Sports is entertainment and a some mild mannered shots at a guy over his girlfriend is good for fan interest. The NBA was never as popular as when Dennis Rodman was doing all that crazy shit. This is nothing in comparison to him.

The league is actually suspending a guy for saying another player got his sloppy seconds? How ridiculous is that?If there is a problem between the two players hockey certainly has avenues where it can be settled on the ice.

If we are talking about this how can it be bad for the NHL?

I never said suspending him was bad for the NHL. I think the NHL was actually trying to stop anything from being settled on the ice. It's one thing to take a shot at the guy who is dating your ex, but saying "sloppy seconds" is over the line.

Comparing hockey players and basketball players (or football players) is like comparing apples and oranges. I mean, like comparing blacks and whites. Doing stupid publicity stunts seems commonplace for football and basketball players, there's a bit more of an "elitist attitude" for hockey players. Not saying that is good, but that is the state of the Bettman administration. The assumption is that these guys love the game for the game, not for the money they get and they certainly don't need to have the sideshow for publicity sake.

Because it attracts certain types of people, who create an undesired fanbase for the sport. :*>

thats exactly why your league is tanking in the US.Nobody has any personality.Every other guy is a walking corpse personality wise or a foreign guy who barely speaks english. It wasnt always like this.Hockey used to be more of a sport of the common man at least in Philly. Now it costs an arm and a league to see a game and the players walk out of the locker room dressed like stock brokers.Avery is what your game needs desperately.Bettman has been nothing but trouble for hockey. He came from the NBA where they specialized in not focusing on the players because a majority of them are crazy black guys.Hockey needs this buzz.

I'm sorry but neither the word sloppy or seconds is offensive to anyone and suspending him is one step towards enacting a grammar police.Hockey has fighting just for this reason.

It looks as though the NHL administration, team management and players all thought otherwise. I'm not saying he's not amusing, but I support the suspension, regardless.

It will be the first suspension in sports for insulting a guys girlfriend.this is the sport where guys spit their teeth out without blinking, correct?

Its the oddest reason ever.

What are Jimmy's thoughts on sloppy seconds?

It's not about that, though. I kind of find Sean Avery amusing. However, the fans he attracts are those that thing WWE wrestling is a sport. Hockey isn't about that and doesn't need the drama. It's not WHAT he said, it's the premise of unprovoked, rehearsed personal attacks. REAL sports, don't need that, or the people that support it.

Well us undesired people who don't follow the game religiously are what pays the bills. There arent enough diehard hockey fans to make the league successful. If I remember correctly there are still a number of teams who lose money every year.

I'm calling bullshit.

NASCAR is about engineering, design, mechanics, skilled drivers, tire manufacturing, fuel efficiency, engine design, blah blah blah.

But, the seats are still filled with fans waiting for the next crash. If you think the seats in hockey arenas aren't filled with fans waiting on the next fight to break out, then you have lost your mind.

On the ice. About the game.

Not about your fucking love life. This isn't a soap opera.

I didn't say they weren't waiting for the next fight - I think the fights are great, but they need to stay on the ice. Personally attacking someone in an interview is not what hockey is about. You have a beef, you've got 60 minutes to work it out. End of story.

I think wrestling is retarded.I'm attracted to this because there is drama.drama sells tickets.Football in america is great because of all the story lines that go on in one season like that idiot who shot himself the other day.You can keep hockey as your own private club where just the game play itself is interesting to diehards but the league will never return to the level of success it had during the 70's and 80's which was the peak of fighting era.

Personal attacks have been apart of professional sports forever. Its an us verse them mentality that the fans buy into.

As a sports fan, i would be much more interested in watching a game, if i knew two guys had already gotten into a verbal beef outside the arena BEFORE the game even started.

Its like watching a baseball game where some dude has pissed off the other team by some remark, and you are just waiting for him to get clipped by an inside fastball.

like he has another option

I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk.  A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind.  A need to return to genuine practice, right effort.  Need to push on the great doubt.  Need for the spirit.  Hang on to the clear light.
