McCLOUGHAN TO BE NAMED 49ERS G.M. TODAY
#1

A league source tells us that, as widely expected, the San Francisco 49ers have promoted V.P. of player personnel Scot McCloughan to the position of General Manager. The move will be formally announced at a 4:00 p.m. EST news conference.

Co-owner Denise DeBartolo York indicated that the team would be hiring a G.M. during a December interview with Nancy Gay of the San Francisco Chronicle. Not long thereafter, word began to circulate that the job would go to McCloughan.

So the primary change in the team's front office come 2008 is that McCloughan will be running the football operation, and that he will have final say over personnel. On Tuesday, coach Mike Nolan gave up such authority in order to retain his own position with the team.

nolan is fucked. He met with the owners for 2 days to save his job, gave up all his powers and they told him he has to mend the fences with alex smith. my prediction is both will be gone by 2009.

cameron may be the best choice because he is a good OC and he won't get any HC job offers for a few years.
