The Pirate Bay Safe from Police Filter
#1

July 9, 2007
Thomas Mennecke

Slyck reported last Wednesday that the Swedish Police's were to voluntary request that ISPs recategorize The Pirate Bay as a "child pornography" site. If successful, this action would block Swedish citizens from accessing this highly popular BitTorrent tracker. According to The Pirate Bay's latest blog post, it appears the Swedish Police have backed off this threat.

There's a brief Swedish quote from an unnamed source that translates to, "The child porn filter list distributed this week will NOT contain the pirate bay." It is unknown at this time whether this is a quote from Swedish police.

The Pirate Bay claims to have received no guidance from the Swedish police regarding illegal content on their servers, leaving them to question police motivation.

"They claim that their work has been successful when trying to rid the Internet of child porn. I want to point out that still to this day, the police has not given us one single hint on what content on the site has been containing child porn - and the things we have filtered out has been proven not to be child porn either. So wtf? What is this content their talking about?"

The Pirate Bay is considering legal action against the police, if the concluding portion of the post is not to be taken flippantly.

"We are currently thinking about filing charges against the responsible police officer for slander or official misconduct, and we will continue to investigate the actions they have taken."

Why do I keep this cesspool alive?

Pirate Bay basically shares copyrighted material for free which seems like stealing but they actually think they can threaten someone with a lawsuit?Seems ridiculous.

It's set up knowing copyrighted materials will be shared without permission. Its like owning a shop selling just ski masks and guns and pretending you don't know what your clients plan to do with them.

technically pirate bay shares a bunch of ash codes (lenghty lines of text and numbers). those are "bittorents links".

By himself piratebay isn't hosting anything just linking to thing who could possibly be pirated material. You could acheive the same level of fuziness using cleverly builded searches under Google.

The good sense tells us here that they are possibly involved into what some intellectual laws of a country considers being criminal.

Now just to put thing into relation speaking freely as we do here is considered as suspicious or criminal in many countries so go figure about thinking that everyone got the same laws.

I get that different countries have different attitudes to certain laws that might differ from place to place but show me where in the world stealing is acceptable.Call it what you want but it boils down to high tech theft.I'm not computer savy enough to use a site like that and if I was I probably would use it if I thought I wasnt going to get in trouble but I wouldnt kid myself that I wasnt doing anything morally wrong.I don't really care that much but the idea of a site based on sharing material they don't own talking about suing anyone was laughable.

So then you mean that every gun store and sportsware store are illegeal??

'Cause if you dont have any store where ppl can buy guns then the murder rates with guns involved will drop drastically..... I think you are onto something here Richard.....

If a sporting goods store had a extreme amount of customers who bought guns and ski masks and used them for bank robberys don't you think the cops would try to shut them down?

You've (or whoever) set up a vehicle where stolen property can be passed along with no restrictions.Again my original point is not that I care but don't kid yourself that you can sue anyone.
