I need some tips on how to learn to drive a 5 speed. I got my new car yesterday and it's a standard. I practice for about an hour lastnight and an hour today. Well I was stalling A LOT when shifting into first, but I think I
almost got that down. My main problem is hills/inclines. Does anyone have any tips on how to get that down? I am still driving my old car around today cause I can't drive my new one.
This may be a silly question, but I could use the help. My boyfriend is trying to teach me (which he is doing great), but I didn't know if there were any tips that yall know that I could use to learn this.
Thanks.

Been driving standard for 13 years, still sometimes have trouble on hills. Just have to give it lots of gas. Once you get used to the car, it will be much easier.
Imagine fem that your feet are on a pulley system...
When you start off, you have your foot all the way down on the clutch. When you start to go, let off the clutch just as much as the amount of gas your giving it...
if that doesnt' help just give it gas and slowly let off the clutch, you will learn quickly...every car is different and each has a different release point where the clutch catch's the gear.
My advice also, drive alone around the block...its hard having someone watching over your shoulder, it makes you nervous...just drive alone close to home, you'll be fine.
What kinda car?
if your emegency brake has a handle you can use it when you are on a hill to hold the car until you get used to the clutch and the roll back

Yes it is making me nervous when my boyfriend is in the car. I made him get out once, and I did great.
Thanks for the advice.

Getting used to a stick is hard. You just need to practice. I first time I drove a stick it was my fathers truck, I drove it through the side of the barn. I hope you have better luck.

I can't drive stick very well, I have trouble grappling and pulling a phallic-shaped object.
