Lynyrd Skynyrd Band died when Ronnie Van Zandt died. The surviving brother that continues to record is not the same and nothing that he has done compares to the original band.

I'd like an example of anything the original band did that was racist though.

They were more sticking up for the south when people were lumping them all together.I think Southern Man by Young in their opinon unfairly grouped all southern people together as racists so they said fuck it we are what you think we are if you don't really want to try to understand us.

I just got through reading a guy's analysis of it.

They weren't really supporters of Wallace, I don't think. They had a line in Sweet Home Alabama, where they say, "In Birmingham they love the governor".... but the next line is "Boo, boo, boo". Then toward the end of the song they say, "Montgomery got the answer" and they say that is reference the the march by MLK from Selma to Montgomery.

Of course, they sing this song in front of the Stars and Bars, so its hard to not appear racist.

The band felt that Young's lyrical content was representative of the shortsighted "Yankee" belief that all Southern men should be held accountable for the verbalizations and actions of a racist minority. They were trying to say that the Southern Man didn't need a Canadian to tell them they had problems to deal with in the south.
