waco is run by the baptists. i don't really like the town. not much to do there. the college is about all that there is. they are doing some work to revitalize the old down town.

i still would rank it low on my lists of cities to visit in Texas.

Cool that your Great grandpa was the sheriff. pretty rough part of the state. he probably had some good stories.

The Texas Ranger museum is in Waco.

the neighborhood my family lived in was the only decent part of town. they lived on a golf course there. i probably wouldn't recognize anything.

do they sell david koresh memoribilia?

I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk.  A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind.  A need to return to genuine practice, right effort.  Need to push on the great doubt.  Need for the spirit.  Hang on to the clear light.

There are some pretty expensive "older" parts of town.

Yeah, he was a "man's man"

I can remember as a young kid walking in his house and being freaked out by the stuffed deer heads and moose he had on his wall. after he retired he traveled all over hunting and fishing.

When my great grandmother died he gave my dad her old car, a lime green 67 Impala. She drove it to the store once a week, always wore white driving gloves, it had 40,000 original miles on it. it was cherry, i can't even remember who my dad sold the car too...but it was amazing.

the old texas lawmen were pretty rough. They still lived way in the past, some still do. To be a sheriff of a large town like that he would have had to have been a fucking john wayne. 10x cowboy hats and the whole 9 yards.

Clay, I live a short drive to Waco. It has come a looooong way since the "Branch Davidian" debacle. It is a great small city with a lot to offer. I'm going to look up your grand father tomorrow. Waco is a huge part of the history of Texas.

not really. There are probably 2 dozen Texas cities that would come ahead of Waco in terms of where someone would want to visit.

his son David, who would be my mothers father still lives there. they are estranged and haven't been on speaking terms for almost 15 years. he's an asshole who wanted nothing but his fathers money. i hate his guts.

I wouldn't argue that point at all. For those of us in rural central Texas, Waco has some pretty cool stuff (education) Mayborn museum, Tx sports HOF, Cameron Park Zoo, Hippodrome, Symphony, etc. without the long lines and populations.

For me though College Station and Waco are the same distance in different directions. I'll go to CS first.

How goes it Flump?

Considering this is the only site on the world wide web that will let me post, not too bad.

Did you see my pic from inside the Dixie chicken a few months ago?

You're still legendary at UJ, and welcome at CF anytime. Hoax is learning.

NO! where is it at the Chicken? I was drunk and in lust most of the afternoon. I've seen the walls too many times and look at the tail more than the memorabilia. I'll check it out next time. I go to some basketball games (men's and women's) and a bunch of baseball games.

The problem at CF is that they DELETED my account. See, there is a big difference in a "ban" and being "deleted". If you are banned, then the ban can be lifted later if they decide to and all is like it was. Your post history is still there, your av, your title, your post count. Everything is saved.

If they delete you, then everything is lost. You av, your sig, your post history, everything. You have to start over. Plus its a lot of work to set it all up.

So, until they agree to stop deleting nics, I'm out.

I'm a dumbass. I thought you meant hanging on a wall... nevermind.

Great bar. good times.

You can cut and paste the "Ban vs Delete" quote above and put it on CF for them to see. They need to understand that. Not because of me, but in case they decide to use that mod option in the future.

No one at UJ gets "deleted". Hell, even MT, never had his nic deleted. You can still go in and read his flame threads from 3 years ago.
