Jump the shark
#1

it normally refers to TV shows. It the climax of the show, the point where you know, from now on it is all downhill.

So, lets talk about when some bands Jumped The Shark - their last good album.

Metallica - Metallica (perhaps even ... And Justice For All)

Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil

I'm huge Motley fan but....this is in excusable!
I'm saying they jumped the shark at the A.M.A's where they had a killer performance but never made a real comeback. Greatest Hits albums are weak. Right out of Black Sabbath's book on how to re-release War Pigs 50 times.

Greatest Hits
Red White and Crue (Greatest Hits)
20th Century Masters - Best of Motley Crue ( :rollSmile 20th C.M.'s were only cool for bands that had never put out a greatest hits!!!!!
Decade of Decadence (Greatest Hits)
New Tattoo(Second CD with Live versions of Kickstart, S.O.S, Dr F, Live Wire,..)
Generation Swine (With Rerelease of Shout at the Devil)

Another CD had a re-release of Home sweet Home. WTF!?!?!

I think of jumping the shark as a last ditch effort to save the show. 1984 was a groundbreaking commercial success for all hard rock bands. Replacing Dave with Sammy would be a better example of JTS. IMO.

5150 was great but no 1984!

I agree with your definition, but I was following Leu's directions of the LAST good one before said Fonzarelli-named feat.
5150 < Kiss's Psycho Circus
