Serious discussion........ok more like me ranting

What the hell is up with the goddamn gas prices? Last night I went home and it was 2.09 this morning it’s 2.22? I’m about 28 cents away from having to ride my horse to work. I don’t get “cost of living” pay increases, and I’m pretty good at saving money but this is really starting to hurt the piggy bank. 8 years ago I was about 2 pennies away from being homeless so I don’t spend when I don’t have to, except I do dolt on my kids. But that’s not the point. Point is the oil cartel has us by the short hair and nobody seems to give a shit. I’m waiting for the cost of other things to really take off. - for those of you who don’t know better, Places like Walmart, your local grocery store, etc. just pass on the extra cost of shipping goods right on to their customers, by increasing prices. So at what point is this shit gonna stop? News man this morning says we’ll be paying in excess of 2:30 a gallon by Memorial day! When I started working here 7 years ago, it cost me 15-16 bucks a week to get back and forth to work. Now it’s costing me 30-32 bucks a week.

Am I the only person who cares?

I work 25 miles away from home, one way, it'll take me most of the day to bike home and back.

get a smaller car?? thinking of taking the truck off the road and buying a small beater car for the summer, or until the prices get back to reasonable. We both travel too many miles for work to do the bike thing..plus the little one wouldn't sit too well with it either.

I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

I was talking to the spouser about a hybrid last night...I'm thinking the extra 3K for the hybrid might be worth it. My neighbor said it cost her 60.00 to fill it up.

The irony is we still enjoy some of the lowest fuel prices in the world.
My work involves plastics, and because benzene is involved, the prices for our products have increased by nearly 30% in the past year. THankfully, it's an industrywide thing vis a vis competition, but it's tough to explain a huge price hike in an otherwise 'commodity' industry.
One of my cars is a Civic. Great mileage, thankfully. I told the wife that our V-12 Jag will stay in the driveway, even when I get it running, because of the fuel prices.

I'm all for hybrids, they just gotta make something I can use. And currently the excape hybrid is the only thing out there.

here's some interesting facts:

Increasing the efficiency of cars and trucks can play a significant role in reducing America’s dependency on foreign oil.
  • If we raise fuel efficiency standards in American cars by one mile per gallon, in one year, we would save twice the amount of oil that could be obtained from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
  • Raising it by 2.7 mpg would save enough to eliminate all the oil imports from Iraq and Kuwait combined
  • Raising it by 7.6 mpg would save enough to eliminate 100% of our gulf oil imports into this country
Driving a hybrid car is one way to take a real step toward reducing our dangerous addiction to oil.

damn, price here went up 20 cents a gal since i filled up, it sucks
when i started drivin' gas was less than 25 cents a gallon, it's true
luckily i live next door to where i work
but the diesel for the trucks costs more than premium, which is a joke

I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk.  A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind.  A need to return to genuine practice, right effort.  Need to push on the great doubt.  Need for the spirit.  Hang on to the clear light.

I buy about $30,000 worth of gas and diesel fuel every month. Every month!

That same monthly expense was running about $20,000 a few years ago. In the construction business you can't ask for more money once you have a job on the books. My backlog runs about 12 to 14 months ahead. So, when you get large swings in short time frames it hurts the bottom line pretty bad.

Oh well, three cheers in a bucket and mother fucket. Let's have a beer.
