some would argue that it is an employers right to fire an employee
jus sayin'
I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk. A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind. A need to return to genuine practice, right effort. Need to push on the great doubt. Need for the spirit. Hang on to the clear light.

leucetios Wrote:You could argue that. However, you need cause to fire someone. What they do on their personal time (smoke, or use the competitions product) is hardly cause.
some would argue that the only cause you need is that you don't wish to employ that particular person

the job belongs to the employer, not the employee. I shoud be able to fire someone because its Tuesday if I want.
I just have to be willing to accept the consequences, i.e. cost of hiring/training a new employee, loss of reputation etc.

leucetios Wrote:True. Except, for a couple of things:
1. if you don't have cause why wouldn't you want to employ someone who is doing a fine job? This is likely going to cost you money (hiring someone new, training, etc).
2. I don't think you get unemployment if you're fired. Hence, the firing of someone without cause, and on a whim, could cause more harm to the employee.
no, you don't get unemployment when you quit
when you are fired you qualify

while this might make sense, the law says otherwise
once the politicos get involved all hell breaks loose

i agree in the private sector
civil service jobs are a different matter
and they are treated in a different manner
as well they should be, but the meddling government is involved in a lot of places they should just leave alone
IMHO

At the beer warehouse I used to work at we only sold Miller and Coors. If you were caught drinkin anything else while in uniform you would be fired.

People losing their jobs and malcontent for employers are bad things. I appreciate reading many of the thoughtful and insightful posts that were made. This was worth the reading. Keep up the good work!
