shut up coach K?

Anhil8tor Wrote:Did obama say anything about oil. I missed his speech.

He mentioned things in his budget there had to do with "clean energy". And he said that we can't afford to wait for gasoline to be $4 a gallon again, before we do something about it.

So, he didn't directly speak about oil, other than to say we need an alternative. And its going to cost some money to find it.

The reason they are racing to report it is because there are probably 100 laboratories around the globe working on the same thing right now. Everyone wants to be the first to claim success. This is not the first report of someone claiming to have solved it.

I've followed this for a while and have seen the false reports of people making a breakthrough in the past.My question is the phrase "US Navy Scientists" describing who made this possible breakthrough.Doesnt it seem odd that we would rush to claim we discovered this?I kind of hope when our government comes up with a new technology it holds it back a few years before announcing it so we have time to get way ahead of the curve on it.

Not yet. Give it about 75 years, then you can probably want to look or another industry.

Well, I'm not sure that these earlier "false reports" were intentionally leaked knowing they were false. I think these scientiests genuinely think they have solved the problem, only to later find out that they missed something or jumped the gun on the findings. But, I think in the scientific community, they would rather people do that, and get it out there so that the other labs can work off of their successes and/or failures.

I really hope they have solved it. But as simple as they always make it sound, it must be very very complex.

If they have actually discovered how to do it I bet someone at area 51 came up with it 10 years ago and these guys announcing it now is just a cover.I'd imagine if you're on the governments payroll you'd have to let them know first before you call the media. It sounds sketchy as to if they actually did figure out how to do it.The last few times someone came out like this nobody could reproduce their experiments.

Yeah, I think there have been dozens of cases of people claiming to have produced cold fusion only to find that none of them could reproduce their results. The first guys to do it, I think they proved that they actually falsified their data after making their claim.

You know, speaking of all of this, do you remember several years back when they were building the Cyclatron (sp?). That huge 100 mile tunnel that was supposed to be used to do some kind of huge experiments on?

Was that being done to produce energy? I dont' remember what the purpose of that thing was.

But you know, I remember a long time ago when the thought of making sea water drinkable was thought to be impossible or impractical.

Now, I think they make hand pumps that you can carry in an emergency pack on a boat to make your own drinking water from sea water. I know that there are towns all across the globe now that get their drinking water from sea water and it has proved to be cheaper than any alternatives.

So, if a problem is given enough real thought, it can be solved.

It was only maybe a year ago.I think its the hadrion collider(sp). It is supposed to smash smash particles together to create unseen before reactions and possibly create a mini black hole that could tear the earth apart.I think its main purpose is to help understand things like string theory and other related physics questions.

Yeah, it was the super collider. No, it was at least 10 or 15 years ago. They were buildling it in Waxahachie, Texas. Because I remember the old company I worked for had a contract for it. They got paid millions to start and then millions more to undo what they had done. Ended up about 1/2 built and then abandoned because they wouldn't fund it anymore.

Now there may have been another one built a year ago or so, but I just remember that one. No one knew what the fuck it was for.

I'm against it.I guess the conservative side of me has a problem with an elected body murdering people for basically no gain.Thats the only problem I have with it and I do think there should be some exceptions like Bin Laden. If you can prove the guy 100% killed a huge number of people and the whole world will be in an uproar if he was allowed to live then I'm open for the debate on if he should die.I'd rather decide between if a guy like that should die over a guy who killed the cashier in a 7\11.I'm talking one execution every 50 years.

Interesting points.

I have heard people say if you are pro-life, you should be anti-capital punishment because a life is a life. My counter argument to this is that abortion is taking the life of a human being who has not had the chance at life, is completely defenseless, has done absolutely nothing wrong at all since it's creation, and has no understanding of right from wrong.

Capital punishment is taking the life of a human being who has had the chance at life, is partially defenseless (it can obviously fight for itself, but is in restraint by the government), has absolutely done wrong (severe enough to be put to death), and absolutely can understand the difference of right from wrong (the people who don't understand it are not put to death, they are institutionalized).

There's a counter argument to that ^ and it is that being pro-choice and anti-capital punshment is hypocritical because it argues that the life of the worst criminal is more valuable than an unborn child.

I fall somewhere in the middle on both issues. I am pro death penalty, but it's a mute point because we don't have it here. I do think it's better to put convicted killers to death than protect them and shelter them for 25 yeard (here).

For abortion, I would hate to take away all the rights of the woman, but I hate that the man has zero rights when it comes to this. I get so sick of the "my body, my choice" thing. Your body, your choice, and you chose to have sex and it has consequences. Does the father or the child have a choice? And yet, many pro-choicers don't give a fuck about that.

Insert clever, witty and amusing signature here.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Unfortunately there will never be a way to give men rights when it comes to abortion. Far too many variables.
