I have no idea what a stamps costs either but my office sends out 20-30 pieces of mail a day (invoices etc..) and we have an automated stamp machine.I'm in an industrial park full of business's that do the same.

Its real powerful your family of shitheads don't use the postal service that often but just consider how most business's pay and invoice people via the US mail.

Every company I owe, from utilities to insurance, is always wanting me to be billed electronically. Some even give you a discount. When I do get bills I just throw them away unopened because I pay online. Regular mail is almost a thing of the past and if you want a package delivered UPS and FedEx do it faster and better.

The government made it illegal for anybody to compete with the Post Office a long time ago in delivering regular letters. That's why UPS, FedEx, etc. can only deliver parcels and can't no company can use a U.S. mail box. If another company could compete with them I'm sure they would have done it cheaper and more efficiently.

It just so happens that the kind of mail they specialize in and had a monopoly in is dwindling down to nothing. I bet nobody even sends postcards at all anymore since you can send an email while on vacation.

I suggest you listen a little less to the talk radio and maybe read up on what healthcare reform actually means and the cost of not doing anything and leaving the system as is.As a person with a piece of a small business its a no brainer to me.

The USPS' problem isn't a lack of business, it has sinply oversaturated the market. I live in a town of 500 thousand people with only 5 post offices. The lines in them are through the door from the time it opens until it closes, everyday. There is no lack of business there. However, every other little hole in the wall with a population of 100 has a post office where 5-10 people just stand around all day reading tabloid magazines all day. One the USPS starts scaling back the waste and streamlining their work force, you'll see that they will be a more efficient company. They've already started, in fact.

Regular envelopes. They have to be in a parcel size envelope to be legal.

Still more anecdotal information, but no one in my family mails letters anymore. I doubt it the average person could tell you what a stamp currently costs.

I'd say at least a good 90% of billing is done by mail, not to mention advertising. Holidays, birthdays etc. are huge for mail.
