Confusednarg:

I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk.  A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind.  A need to return to genuine practice, right effort.  Need to push on the great doubt.  Need for the spirit.  Hang on to the clear light.

Country dj's knows that I'm an outlaw.
They'd never come to see me in this dive.
Where bikers stare at cowboys,
Who are laughin' at the hippies,
Who are prayin they'll get out of here alive.

The loudmouth in the corners gettin' to me
Talkin 'bout my earrings and my hair.
I guess he ain't read the signs that say I've been to prison,
But someone ought to warn him
Before I knock him off his chair.

'Cause my long hair just can't cover up my redneck.
I've won every fight I've ever fought.
And I don't need some turkey telling me that I ain't country.
Sayin' I ain't worth the damned 'ol ticket that he bought.
'Cause I can sing all them songs about Texas
And I still do all the sad ones that I know.
They tell me I look like Merle Haggard
And sound a lot like David Allan Coe.

And the barmaid in the last town that we played in
Knew the words to every song I'd wrote.
She said Jimmy Rabbit turned her on to my last album
Just about the time the jukebox broke.
Yeah, Johnny Cash helped me get out of prison,
Long before Rodriga stole that goat.
I've been a rhinestone cowboy for so long I can't remember.
And I can do ya every song Hank Williams ever wrote.

And I can sing all them song about Texas
And I still do all the sad ones that I know.
I can't help it I look like Merle Haggard
And I sound a lot like David Allan Coe

But these country dj's all think I'm an outlaw.
They'd never come to see me in this dive
Wher bikers stare at cowboys
who are laughin' at the hippies
Who are prayin' they'll get out of here alive.
The loud mouth in the corner's gettin' to me,
Talkin 'bout my earrings and my hair.

Man, that song brings back good memories though. Dixie Chicken, shooting pool and drinking longnecks. That was practically our theme song back then.

new year's eve when I was 20 a group of us ended up at Underground Atlanta. when we headed that way we'd been drinking all day and none of us lived in Atlanta at the time, so we didn't realize we'd be the only white folks there. a buddy of mine and I downed a tray of tequila shots and hopped up on the bar and sang "you never even called me by my name" at the top of our lungs, yelling over the hip hop music that was playing in the background. complete with the "steve goodman" recitation. we were having a blast. the other 6 or 8 people we were with thought we were all going to get shot. I threw up on a couple making out on the way back to the hotel later. good times

I guess I was about 20, in college, and we were at a party that was kind of a dud. Anyway, me and another guy met some dood there that had a jeep and we all got to talking and he said "how about I back my jeep up to the back door and we take one of these kegs and go do something else". So we did. Now its him driving, my friend in the front seat and me sitting in the back with this keg.

He goes straight for this dive ass beer joint in the worst part of town. On the way, I told this new guy that neither of us knew to act kind of cool in this place, because they dont' really like college fucks in there. This place is a converted old gas station made into a beer joint. He says to me "My daddy told me that if you ever get around crazy people, first thing you have to do is make them think you are crazier than they are." I thought, "oh fuck".

When we get there, this guy drives his jeep inside the place, through this big rolling door that was open. We are pushing tables and chairs toward the bar as we mow our way up to the bar. He finally stops, holds up three fingers and says "Three beers, ma'am".

So, we're sitting in this fucking place and it is dead ass quiet. Nothing but bikers sitting around and shooting pool and they are all looking at us. The motor is running and there we sit inside this place in a jeep.

The lady that ran the place, comes hauling ass around the bar and she is more than slightly pissed. Before she gets to us, one of the bikers comes up to the guy driving and says "Man, if you will back this jeep out of here, I'll get you your three beers". We sat in there and drank beer with the bikers all night.

That's awesome. Did y'all just let the keg go to waste?

agreed. I'm trying to think of something that's worth posting after it. I've stolen maybe a half dozen kegs from different parties before, once that involved pitching a guy through a window, but I can't top that. way to kill the thread flump :loool:
