A bunch of us were at the bar on Saturday night. We're less than a mile from his house, so I figure that even if he is drunk there's not much of a problem--he can make it home alright.
He ends up driving 20 minutes to the interstate, then drives another 25 minutes to his old house. He calls his ex-wife to let her know he's lost, so she calls me crying and shit asking to find out where he is.
I give dude a ring and tell him to pull over, take the keys out of the ignition, and I'll pick him up. He wouldn't listen. I tried telling him all the shit I could think of; I don't want you to fall asleep, you'll probably get pulled over, think of all the times you've heard of someone getting hit by a drunk driver, etc. but nothing was working.
So he ends up getting pulled over for doing 50 in a 30. Blows a .2 and has to get picked up from jail. Now he realizes how stupid it was, and he says he won't do it again...I want to believe him, but I just can't.
My question to you guys: What can I possibly say to him or any other stubborn friend of mine the next time they are trying to drive home drunk and I want them to pull over so I can give them a ride home? I mean, this guy seriously thought he was OK even though I told him he just drove 30 miles in the wrong direction. At that point is there anything I can say that will work?
