"the gates"
#1

i just got back from central park, nyc
the installation was awesome
i had a religious experience
i rank this event with woodstock and a few others in my life
anyone who can get to nyc and walk thru this installation should do it
it is well worth the effort

anyoneone who considers themselves an artist should make a huge effort to experience this awesome achievement
it will be here for two weeks and then it will be dismantles
part of its power is the temporality

this will be studied and written about for a long time, perhaps centuries, certainly many decades

once again, i urge all who have the opportunity to experience this massive gift to the world

these poeple, christo and jean-claude, spent 21 million of their own dollars to do this

if you can see this and miss it you will rue it for a long time

here is a ny times link explaining a little: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/13/arts/1...an.html?th

i recommend you google this if you are interested

I realise that I have a past to break with--an accumulation of inertia, wrong, foolishness, rot, junk.  A great need of clarification, of mindfulness, or rather, of no mind.  A need to return to genuine practice, right effort.  Need to push on the great doubt.  Need for the spirit.  Hang on to the clear light.

I read about that. I would really like to see that but live a little too far away. You're lucky to have gotten to go see it.

i am so pleased that you want to be there, i wish you could make it
i was very dubious until i saw jean-claude speaking saturday nite on the tube
she is quite a presence, i knew i had to go

Isn't Jean-Claude a dude's name?

she is christo's wife
apparently it can be a woman's name as well

she was so articulate and erudite that i felt compelled to see the work
i am very glad i did

You must be confused with Jean-Luc.

How much of it did you go through? The entire set-up is what, 23 miles?
I'd love to see it.

the way to "get it" is to go there
you will be able to tell your grandchildren "i was there to see 'the gates'"
it is a fleeting, once in a lifetime opportunity

there is a kid from central america who works as a detailer for the body shop next door
in other words, he is not an art snob
he was smiling broadly and very pleased to have gone there yesterday

I'm sure it's lovely, and I'm not pissing on what you experienced snarg, but isn't it pretty much 23 miles of curtains?

I'd love to see it.

we walked from 116 th to 59 th st
and not in a straight line, probably 5 or six miles

as an added bonus, we saw a red-tailed hawk kill and eat a squirrel above some of "the gates"

i highly recommend that you make the effort to see it, PBA
you won't regret it

I caught a red tailed hawk in a coyote trap one time and had to throw a sleeping bag over it and hold it until I could get its foot loose. Holding that son of a bitch under that sleeping bag was about like being on a 10 minute bull ride. Those mothers are big.

that is correct
the owners of the building got permission to move them out
there was a huge uproar and much outrage from the bleeding hearts
an artificial aerie was built and some red-tails moved in
great story

for many gawkers it was clearly a bigger event that the installation
