Thanks, Fairie.
I got the potty training pads but she thinks they're toys and rips them to shreds, then pees on the carpet. I don't have a pen/cage--what is that about? The obedience training (come, sit, stay, etc.)won't be a problem cause I know how to train for that.

also look for a local dog training group....check with your vet, we started ours in puppy Kindergarden..and she did really well with basic commands....not only does it train the dog to listen to you...it helps you understand ways to communicate with the pup. But as Bill mentioned, dogs are clean by nature they don't poop where they sleep or eat...a small pen/cage "seems" cruel...but then your putting a human factor to the dog where the dog should understand your the "master"...keep the pen and lay pads by the door (to help with accidents. Do it a few hours a day to start, up to 6-8 if you work full time...(do not put pads in the cage!) As the dog grows (in your case not much lol) his/her bladder control will get stronger also pick up a book on the "breed" a lot of times you'll find tips and help on training them and get a better understanding.

Just be consistent and the dog will get used to the routine.
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

Okay I'm going to buy a small pen/cage today. I've been reading up on the internet about the breed and also signed up for this service where they email you tips on training/care every day. The first day was on housebreaking, lol.
Lucy follows me everywhere, knows her name and comes almost every time I call already. She's a cuddly bundle of love and likes nothing better than to be curled up in my lap.
