Just Wednesday night, Rice junior forward Arsalan Kazemi, who is from Iran, heard chants of “USA!” from the Louisiana-Lafayette student section. Unfortunately, he’s heard worse in his three seasons on South Main.

I'm not a student nor do I sit in the student section so I wasn't chanting...


However if a USA, USA, USA, USA, chant bothers you... I suggest you find another place to live. Grab a map, a plane ticket and head out and about. I hear Somalia is nice this time of year.



I get we all did not originate from here.. I understand that people come here from other countries but sports are sports and people will do whatever they can to rile people up. Hey he got the last laugh since they won.


Also the student section chanted "No means No" when FIU an isiah came to town. That in my opinion is tasteless.

If I thought there was nothing deeper to the chant and it was just to be funny like chanting at a wrestler playing a character then I would be ok with it.

Also harassing a guy who was proven in court to have sexual harassed a woman at work is totally different then making fun of where a kids from who just showed up to play a basketball game.

As this becomes common knowledge its going to become for our kids(I'm having kids I guess?) a weird dynamic where calling someone gay will make you the gay one.I'm going to miss the school yard game "smear the queer".
