2009 mlb predictions - BIRD33 - 04-02-2009

The mets being favored is hilarious.I know they supposedly solved their closer problem but they still choked so bad it leaves painful memories two years in a row.No respect for the Phillies. As long as the mets have that idiot manager I'm not worried.

2009 mlb predictions - WoolyGoat - 04-02-2009

Hamels worries me this year.

2009 mlb predictions - BIRD33 - 04-02-2009

Because of the injury?I guess.I'm not worried at all.He was banged up for a few weeks last year.

2009 mlb predictions - WoolyGoat - 04-02-2009

if he winds up missing a couple months (it's an elbow injury, he's still the future of the franchise, and they just won the world series) then the team is relying on Brett Myers? I dunno.

i'll continue to pick the Mets until I'm right.

2009 mlb predictions - BIRD33 - 04-02-2009

Phil's don't have the names but guys like Moyer are solid. Please pick the Mets. Its worked out great the last few years.

2009 mlb predictions - WoolyGoat - 04-02-2009

so jamie moyer is going to be your ace if/when hamels gets hurt? good plan.

2009 mlb predictions - BIRD33 - 04-02-2009

Not an ace but he was 16-7 last year which aint bad.Seriously please pick the mets.I think the Phillies proved last year its not about breaking the bank and bringing in names everyone knows which fans of the yanks and sox get caught up in.This is comical to me because this is literally three years in a row of people talking themselves into the mets right before the season.Go nuts.

2009 mlb predictions - WoolyGoat - 04-02-2009

that's all fine, but if the Mets had even a mediocre bullpen last year they win the division by a mile. call them chokers and rip on the manager all you want (it's even deserved) but they lost last year because of their bullpen and their bullpen only.

i think k-rod's overrated, but the Mets did what they needed to do to solidify their bullpen.

2009 mlb predictions - BIRD33 - 04-02-2009

Its deeper then the closer spot. The team is full of assholes and is barely a team.Billy Wagner was supposed to solidify that spot too.

2009 mlb predictions - WoolyGoat - 04-02-2009

assholes are capable of winning

2009 mlb predictions - BIRD33 - 04-02-2009

No chemistry at all on that team.Everyones out for themselves.

2009 mlb predictions - snarg - 04-02-2009

putz is a stud
i saw him pitch in seattle
he could close for at least 20 teams

Thats a very slighted opinion. If it came from someone that wasn't such a Mets hater, I would give it credence. Because it's just not true to begin with.
Like I said before, I look forward to this year, it's gonna be a tight race, as I see it. The Mets 'did what they needed to do' as far as the Bullpen, is true. But you need to GET the lead to save it. I'm still concerned with spots 6-8 in their lineup.
Phils have few holes in their offense, but still a solid lineup.
I think Wertz had a great year, but don't think he's that guy consistently. As a Met fan, I fucking HATE him. He's got that intangible thing most players lack- heart.
Howard can only go down as far as strikeouts are concerned. I mean, FUCK, he HAD to work on that, so I assume he'll see less K's this year.Which can only be good for the team when he puts wood on the ball.
Can't imagine Rollins or Utley being any less consistent than they were last yr.

Mets, however, made more upgrades in the off-season.
On paper, they should win the division. New field takes away a bit of the 'home field advantage' but should be a non-issue.
So I'll go out on a limb and say, barring injury, Mets will have 93 wins or more. Will it be good enough to win the division? That's the real question. I say yes.

The mets have been better on paper for three years straight. The team has no heart.Jose Reyes is your team in a nutshell.Very talented with a 10 cent brain.Phillies are grinders and thats what you need to win.I predict the mets manager is gone by the all star break.

I disagree with your first statement. Going into last year, there were countless prayers said for the bullpen. On paper, they were NOT solid. This year they are. Big difference.
Phils pen had a once in a lifetime record of holding and saving games last year. I expect some blown saves this year, and I can't wait to hear the countless jeers from the Philly fans' frustration. This WILL happen.
Wooly said it best about the Mets pen. They blew way too many leads.
Defense wins games. Without pitching, you're nowhere. Mets got the pitching they needed, and we all expect better things in 2009.
It's shaping up to be a great rivalry.

2009 mlb predictions - Dr. Lecter - 04-02-2009

I also think that it would be pretty brazen to think that last years WS champs will not be in the hunt. I'm not saying that. I think the Mets can keep it tight though.

I'm sure it will be exciting come late August when I start to somewhat give a shit about baseball.
