My boss was telling me about her minor ski accident yesterday. Then, she up and died. Very odd.

I heard it was like a "mild concusion" and she didn't want to go to the doctor. Then later started feeling bad and went to the ER. Turns out she had been bleeding inside her skull the whole time and was pretty much a goner when she got there.

Which is very perplexing. The reason my boss was interested in this is because we see clients with head injuries all the time. If you can get up and walk away, it's not a serious head injury. Typically, the crudest way to determine the severity of a head injury is length of unconsciousness. She was not rendered unconscious. I'm betting on aneurysm or something.

no, it could very well be related. I just don't think it was the head injury alone.

I heard she crashed on the bunny slope.The one time I went skiing I almost killed myself and I'm the most coordinated person you'd ever meet.

Wouldn't a head injury that causes an aneurysm that kills you still be a head injury that killed you?

I mean, if I stab someone in the heart, the knife going in their heart might not be what kills them, but the fact that they bleed to death would still be related, right?

If I fell on a bunny slope and got a head injury that might kill me, I would probably go into some biker bar and start a fight so they would kill me so that I didn't die from a head injury I got on a bunny slope.

My boss, (who is clearly the expert on all things, but esp. this ski hill because his wife is from Montreal :roll Smile

says you would be hard pressed to hurt yourself too bad, especially if you were with someone (she was with an instructor). But, she hit her head, got up, refused medical treatment and started feeling crappy an hour later. It's so atypical of a serious head injury.

I had a client once who was skydiving in formation and he was kicked in the head by his team mate. That alone knocked him unconscious. But, he was unable to pull his chute. So, when he fell, he was a noodle, which probably spared his life. Anyways, they determine head injury severity by something called a Glasgow Coma Scale http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_Coma_Scale

My guy was a 3 (he should have been dead). She was a 15.

Sure, but all I mean is she didn't get a head injury on a bunny slope and died from that alone. Something else happened, perhaps as a result of that.

Either way, that's fucking scary. I'd hate to think I could have a beer bottle or something dropped on my head and I could die.
