Flumper:

What can we expect from gas prices? Where will they eventually level off?

Will the price of food continue to climb? Do you blame inflation or the fact that the dollar is so weak?

What can we as a country do to ensure this isn't the end of our great civilization.

How many Cat 3 or higher hurricanes will hit the united states this year?

I think that gas prices have yet to see the end of this run. I think that they are going to continue to pressure prices until they see a slow down in demand. Which they have not yet. I've also thought that this might be the next world war that has started and that the countries with the oil have decided that they better fight it while they have the oil and before the nations that are dependent on that oil find alternative sources. I have said since 9-11 that the next great war against the United States and our allies will be fought on our economy.

With the dollar dropping in value it makes sense that everything goes up. Also with america as dependent on fuel as they are it makes sense for gas to go up. No one here wants to make sacrifices anymore. If I want it... charge it...

its not how it should be.

I saw an interesting question on a game show about a year ago. They asked a sample of Americans "what percentage of Americans think that the United States will no longer exist in 100 years?"

I was shocked to see that more than 50% of the people said they think we will NOT be around in 100 years.

I figure that has to be attributed to one of two things:

1. We fuck up so bad that we get wiped out.

2. The end of the world happens before the next 100 years are over.

I never really thought about that before. But I guess the possibility exists that this nation might not survive. I'm sure the Russians never thought their system of government would fail. The global map of nations is continually changing. Our country, economy and system of government is new relative to most of the world. I suppose there is a chance that we could find that we have been building a house of cards for the past 250 years and it could fall apart right before our eyes.

Gas prices will be lower by 25% by the time the election rolls around. That of course has nothing to do with President Bush putting pressure on the saudis so Mccain will have a better chance of getting elected because we all know Bush can't control that.

Dude, the dollar dropping in value has nothing to do with gas prices. The dollar drops in small increments over time. Gas is rising geometrically right now. Fucking diesel is nearly $5.00 right now at the pump. Its jumping in 20 and 30 cent increments. Eight years ago I was paying $1.35 for diesel. That's nearly a 400% increase.

On one hand, I hope you are right. But I don't think so. I think, if he had that kind of power, he'd have already played that hand just to salvage his approval ratings.

Start saying "eh" now. It'll help the transition.

He hasnt cared about approval ratings since he got re-elected.Our(tax payers) opinion of him does not matter for him.Even if he did get gas prices lower now that would only bring his approval ratings up a few points for a few weeks.Gas isnt the reason he's unpopular.By lowering it around election time it alleviates a small bit of pressure on Mccain because he's tied to the bush administration.

I 100% remember gas being high during the summer of 2004 and then magically getting low around election time so Kerry couldnt bitch about it there by connecting with common people like he had trouble doing. It wasnt like gas got easier to produce or more plentiful.

Bush went over to Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago and I would bet $1000 he set it up that as a favor to him he needs gas to be cheaper around election time.

Gas averages around me at $3.93 a gallon.Pick a price and I'll bet you $20 to the closest penny that gas here is $3.30 around election time.

I just read this.Jesus Christ. You being somebodies father is the most convincing thing to me in this thread as to why we won't be around in 100 years.

Where we not gas dependent in the 1990's when I paid 1.05 a gallon?I kind of remember there being cars.

because having kids is so hard to do? you parents managed to do it.

tell me there aren't more people driving now than in the 90's?
how bout flights?

America is more dependent on gas today than it was 10 years ago. Its a great time to be working in the oil field.

Since you're in the industry can you tell me what factors have contributed to gas rising a couple 100% in 15 years? Is it harder to produce? There arent that many more people driving now to justify that type of increase.

big oil companies have decided to pad their bottom line. They are making more now than ever and people are paying it at the pump.

another factor is the lack of refineries in the us. we have 2 coming online in the next couple of years which will help... but we have to get our oil refined in either mexico or canada right now.

We pay more for gas here than you do. Diesel is about $1.37 a litre and gas is $1.26. Or $5.19 per gallon diesel and $4.78 for regular fuel. Since the dollar is now around par we're getting hosed. Oilsands aren't really paying off anything for us. The fix is in. Come on US election. :yay:

So is it Americans being more dependent on oil thats causing prices to be outrageous or greed on the oil companies part?

Its kinda working hand in hand at this point. We are dependent on our oil being refined outside of our borders and that doesn't help. The oil companies are kinda playing chicken right now IMO. They keep inching gas up and no one is cutting back their use. Alot of americans live on credit cards and run up incredible debt (s'up paddy?). I kinda think that keeps the demand up. I was in a store last week and someone charge $1.07 on their credit card. A fucking dollar man.
