Tennis Vs Hockey - Vitamin E - 03-23-2007

Hardest slap shot: 118.3 mph. Former star Bobby Hull, who played from 1957–1972 and 1979–1980, reportedly blasted the hardest slap shot in league history.

Hardest serve:
Men: 153 mph. Andy Roddick, June 11, 2004.

But if given the choice...I'd take the 150 mile per hour tennis ball over the 118 MPH frozen puck any day.

Tennis Vs Hockey - Banana - 03-23-2007

I'd let Roddick suck milk from my jugs.

Bass fishing does better ratings on the outdoor life network. You live in Siberia you have no choice but to pay attention. The rest of America could give a shit. The Arena football league has a better organization.

Only because of shady ESPN relationships.

If ESPN bailed on hockey do you think thats cause for concern?Columbus, Nashville and Atlanta have frachises for christ sake.Hockey will always be second rate unless it shrinks the number of teams.

They're no longer involved in hockey AND they have a financial interest in the arena football league. Who the fuck watches the AFL? Do they really need to have power rankings on espn.com? ESPN is promoting it because of $$$, and they're ignoring hockey because they can.

Arena Football openly states they learned huge lessons from the XFL.

If the NFL season were as long as Hockey, Basketball, or Baseball....there would be no need for Arena football.

Arizona and Florida franchise market to retired Northerners. Professional sports teams will always have a home in markets that can support them.

I don't watch Arena football at all.I don't think ESPN is ignoring hockey I think theyve noticed that nobody watched hockey when it was on their network or on any other channel. The ratings are pathetic, dog shows do better.I don't blame ESPN for trying to get back lost money spent on hockey by trying to build a arena football following. How sad is it that Hockey used to be one of the big 4 sports and now is an afterthought that 10% of sports fans pay attention to.Hockey is now a niche sport. In Philly you'd think hockey is popular but I swear to god it has 80,000 diehard fans and thats it.They always sell out but its to the same people every year and no casual sports fan cares.

Casual fans typically don't gravitate to sports that lock out an entire season.

The business of hockey over shadowed the game, and the sport has yet to recover.

Columbus?Do you think its worth it to have that many teams that dilute the talent level just so someone in Atlanta will buy a ticket? The way to make money in professional sports is national TV money, hockey only lives off of local TV and ticket sales. Its like a minor league sport in major cities.I never see hockey getting back to where it was at without contracting.

Totally.I think the dilution of their product while they are trying to recover is killing them.Signing with OLN was like waving the white flag.

One of the biggest problems is that teams in the biggest/best markets are awful. The Bruins haven't been remotely good since the late 80s. Chicago is terrible, Philly is lousy, and the Rangers aren't much better. Those are the markets that drive the sport, and the Bruins are behind ALL of these teams in terms of local popularity:

Sox, Pats, Celtics (obviously)
BC basketball
BC football
BC/BU/UMass hockey

This is NOT a college town, and the Bruins are way behind a college football team that hasn't done anything since '84 and a college basketball team that hasn't really done anything ever.

The NHL needs its big market/marquee franchises to do well, and they're currently being run into the ground.

To many teams. Not enough good players. The flyers had Bob Clarke calling the shots and probably still do so thats why they suck.Carolina in the finals for hockey is a joke.

Tennis Vs Hockey - HMMMMMM - 03-23-2007

I remember reading that during the last hockey lookout, ESPN started showing reruns of old college football and basketball games, and got better ratings.

Tennis Vs Hockey - Vitamin E - 03-23-2007

I'm biased. Without the expansion, Minnesota would never have been able to purchase and relocate a team. Now that the Wild are inplace and have a lengthy waiting list for season tickets, teams like Chicago would be more at risk of contraction.

But, I do agree with the point about too many teams.
