Anybody Heard of Joint Title to Property - Flumper Barflusterbutt - 02-01-2007

I have a friend that has 10 acres behind him. Its owned 1/8 by a lady in Georgia and 7/8ths by about 100 other families. They are all balck and they got it back when the slaves were freed.

Well, the 1/8th lady is current on her taxes. The 7/8ths bunch is way behind and the county is foreclosing.

So, if my friend buys it on the court house steps he owns 7/8ths of it and the balck lady in Georgia owns 1/8. But he can't fence off his 7/8ths because she owns 1/8 of all of it.

Is that possible?

What does black have to do with it. That's how the property got such a fucked up title. Apparantly it was a bunch of slaves and they deeded this 10 acres to a bunch of them and now all the families still own it.

He wants to buy it, but if he does he is going to co-own it with this one lady.

That's the part that I'm curious about. How that works exactly.

Hmm. I guess I don't know the answer then. I was thinking that if it was given to black people from the slave days, they had to keep sharing it. I guess I don't understand how he gets to buy it. But, it's gay. The whole fucking thing. Reminds me of the Indian Reservations.

No. She has kept the taxes paid on her 1/8th portion. The other 7/8ths are way behind. So far behind that its about the value of the property. So the Tax District will auction the 7/8ths ownership off on the courthouse steps to pay off the taxes. If they sell it for more than the value of the taxes, then they will try to mail the balance to the families that owned the 7/8ths.

Fuck off! So, she's gonna keep paying the taxes on her 8th? She can't sell it to a white person?! I can only imagine the shit that would stir if he had said "I can't buy from a black person."

He was calling me to see if I'd back him up for $25k to buy it (you have to have cash on the auction day). But I had never heard of "co-owning" something like that. At least not with some other person that you don't know.
