The first 3.5 years I had my car, barely a thing ever happened to it. I think my only incident was the first winter I had it when a sheet of ice flew off an 18-wheeler and (after my life flashed before my eyes) by passenger side mirror got knocked off.
I'm not sure what's happened, but since April, I've managed to hit a piece of sheet metal, a shredded tire, and a freakin trash can, all of which were lying in the middle of the highway. On the way to Toronto in April, my brother in law (in the car in front of me) swerved around a piece of metal at the last minute, leaving me no time to make a move myself (rear fender damage). A month or two ago, there was a shredded tire (black, obviously) lying in the middle of road at night...didn't see it until it was too late (and it looked like a trash bag...cracked my front bumper, and the plastic guards underneath all came unclipped). Last night, I'm driving back from hockey and there's a god damn trash barrell (black, of course) lying in the absolute middle of rte 24 north. Didn't see it until it was too late, and I freakin whaled it. The fender is no longer split, because everything to the left of the split is now gone. Fog light, gone. Washer fluid, gone. AC, busted (I think because of the thermostat.)
So, my question is, what's the best way to approach my insurance company about this, or am I screwed regardless. I got an estimate on the damage a week ago (obviously not including the latest atrocities) and it was about $1,000. That's sure to go up now. I'm hoping I'll just have to pay my deductible (should be $500) and get this ish fixed, but is my insurance going to go through the roof? It aggravates me to no end that it's gonna cost me this much money because some moron couldn't keep a barrell from falling off of their freaking truck.

Just act like it all happened last night and be as vague as possible with the insurance Co.

Just tell them you hit the damn thing. There is nothing you can do about it. If you have been with them a while, they may cut you a break on the increase.

UPDATE:
So I got all the cosmetic stuff taken care of, looks good as new. The autobody wouldn't touch any of the electrical stuff, so I took it to the dealership to run the diagnostic on the check engine light. Predictably, they found about $1,200 worth of additional work; some related to the accident and some normal maintenance items.
Most of the items make sense, but I was hoping someone could explain the severity of "vent valve / evap canister cracked." I'm pretty sure it's not something I can convince the insurance company to cover, but I'm not sure how important it is to get fixed or if it's worth paying $480+ to do so.
Thoughts?

Evap can is associated with the ac and is needed to run the defrost.
