Truffs about St. Patty's Day... - Bill - 03-17-2006

St. Patrick wasn't Irish. He was english and at the age of 15 he was kidnapped and sold into slavery and served as an indentured servent in france. After 16 years of slavery he managed to escape and returned home to jolly ole england and was living with his folks when he had a vision from god. As a result of the vision he joined a seminary and became a priest. His life's work consisted of building churches in Ireland to convert the masses to christianity from the slowly waning druid religion that had dwelled in ireland for centuries. He is commonly remembered and pictured as driving the snakes from ireland but the truth is snakes aren't a native specie in irland and the myth comes directly from christianities vision of the time that any other religion was the work of the devil and the devils worldy form is that of the snake. so when you hear of him driving the snakes from ireland it is really a reference to hime driving other religions from the land.
