In catching up with the shit I missed, I just watched this movie on Monday night. I wasn't that impressed. I could have shut it off after Pyle killed the Drill Sargeant (sp?) and been just as happy.

Pyle did a good job of looking fucking deranged and evil. The snear, the eyes. I was impressed.
Problem with naration: I knew he wouldn't kill Joker, and that ruined the scene a little

The opening scene is classic.

"Six feet? I didn't know they stacked shit that high. You tryin' to squeeze an extra inch on me?"

(Plus the other 20 great lines that I didn't fuck up).

You probably should, just for its cultural significance. That's why I rented it. And it was pretty good, though as I said, halfway through I could have stopped and still been happy.
Not the say the second half isn't good, its just got a completely different feel to it, and theme.
I'd say see it.

I saw the bathrooom scene coming a mile away, and expected worse. The penultimate scene with the sniper I was more bored in that disturbed.
Johnny Got His Gun was more disturbing, especially the end.

This is true. I appreciate what they were after in the second part, but I think they were too subtle (believe it or not) and they dragged it on too long without enough characterization and because of that they missed their mark
