Ill. Man Acquitted in Mom's Decapitation
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (AP) - A 28-year-old man accused of decapitating his mother and displaying her head on the front porch of their home because he believed she was Satan was acquitted of murder by reason of insanity.
Judge John Scotillo ruled Tuesday that Karl Sneider of Palatine suffered from mental illness and ``lacked substantial capacity to appreciate the criminality'' of killing his 49-year-old mother, Kathryn Sneider.
During four days of testimony, four doctors said Sneider was schizophrenic and suffered from delusions and hallucinations.
According to court testimony, Sneider told police he was Jesus Christ, his mother was Satan and that her death in January 2003 signaled the triumph of good over evil.
According to police and prosecutors, the two got into a fight after she told him he should be committed to a mental hospital. He then stabbed her, cut off her head with a kitchen knife and put her head on the front porch.
The next morning he stole a neighbor's car and crashed it before police tracked him down, reports said.
Scotillo ordered Sneider to be evaluated by mental health experts within 30 days. The judge will then determine the number of years and what type of mental-health supervision Sneider will receive. He will remain in Cook County jail until then.
Outside the suburban Chicago courtroom, relatives were divided on the ruling.
Some wanted Sneider to go to prison and shouted at his father, Warner, who said his son was a troubled man.
``Don't you understand he's sick?'' Warner Sneider said to relatives. ``He's going to a mental institution, he's not going to be on the street.''
But Sandy Larson, Kathryn Sneider's sister-in-law, said ``everybody should be afraid'' of her nephew.

So Banana. What do we do with this guy? We have incontrivertable evidence that he did it. But, he might be insane. Do we put him down? Do we lock him up and force medication on him? Forever?

He sounds like he's been sick for a long time -- there are a number of people to blame if he did not have treatment prior to this event. While he sounds like he will be crazy forever, there is some hope that he can be treated. That being said, he did commit a bonafide crime. I see a difference between mental insanity and just plain evil. It's likely, because of his mental illness, that he DOES NOT know the difference between right and wrong. That sets him apart from people like Susan Smith who knew it was wrong to kill her children. I don't have all the facts, but my guess would be that he could benefit from medicinal treatment, even if it is forever. Some people's brain's don't work properly through no fault of their own. Some people are just plain evil.

So:
do we put him on medication that might keep his symptoms at bay and release him back into the world where he might stop taking his medication and do something crazy again?
do we keep him in an institution where he can be given his medication and monitored for life?
do we just put him down because neither of those options is really all that good?

Do you just want to have sex and get it over with?
Anyone has the potential of "going crazy" one day. Most people are aware of signs that indiciate they need help. This guy and his family missed them, his illness progressed, and resulted in his mother's murder. If he does indeed have schizophrenia, it is likely that he should never be allowed to roam the streets free again. It sounds as though his illness is severe enough to warrant lifelong guardianship. And there is hope he can lead a relatively normal life, even under permanent guarduianship. And just for the sake of argument, I would not have said the same for Jeffrey Dahmer. He was never to lead a normal life - nothing could have cured him. These are my opinions, based loosely on what I know of mental illness. But, there are always grey areas that are open to debate.

Decapitating your mother is really no way to get a
head in life. :dev:

His was a .....crap, I can't think of the word ...sociopath!! He sodomized, tortured and killed animals (well, I don't know if he sodomized the animals), young boys and men. Perpetrators with that type of deviance are almost impossible to cure. No amount of medication or therapy can fix what goes on in their head. They will even tell you that. The ones that do get out of jail (s'up Canada) will tell you that they feel they are a risk to themselves and others.

That boy was really cutting his mother's hair and all she wanted was for him to
take a little off the top but this is ridiculous. :loool: God I kill myself sometimes :loool:

I agree with everything you've said, except one thing. I'm not so sure Dahmer was a sociopath. He had other problems. He was drilling holes in these men's heads. His goal was to turn them into a zombie, for lack of a better word. He wanted someone to love, who wouldn't be capable of leaving, or rejecting him. Eating them once his ill-fated medical procedure failed was another method of incorporating these men into his life.
Fucked up yes. But I don't think he was a sociopath.
Bundy now. He was a sociopath.

I had no idea he did that.

Psycho.

I think he was a combo of mental illness and pure evil.
Man gets off on decapitating his mom - leucetios - 09-01-2004
I'm not so sure. A lot of people like to use Dahmer as an example of pure evil. I don't think so.
Now Bundy.
Let's look at this guy:
Little background. Ann Rule is a true crime writer living in portland, and seattle years ago. She also worked at a suicide prevention hotline.
Bundy VOLUNTEERED to work at this hotline. She was assigned as his mentor. She was alone with Bundy in this old victorian house in Seattle until 3AM. When she left her shift, he would walk her out to her car, and tell her to lock her doors cause the city isn't safe and he wouldn't like anything to happen to her.
Then. Once he was alone in the house, manning a suicide prevention line, mind you. What would Ted do? He would shut off the phones and go to sleep. If that isn't sociopathy I don't know what is.
Funny side note: Ann Rule also volunteered at a police station. When she left there late at night, the cops would tell her that they would look out the window and if anyone attacked her they would call 911

I'm going to go ahead an assume you know so much about SERIAL KILLERS because of your interest in writing. There is no doubt that Ted Bundy was a sociopath. What is your opinion about Manson?
Man gets off on decapitating his mom - leucetios - 09-01-2004
Yup. Because of the writing. I do a lot of reading and research for my book. Plus I wanted to be a pathologist, or ideally a Forensic Psychiatrist when I was a kid. Med School is not in the cards anymore.
Actually. I don't know a whole lot about Manson. Not enough to speak even remotely intelligently.

I don't know much about anything to speak of it intelligently....what I know of Manson is that he was a sociopath. No remorse. That's key.
I don't know if you know much about that sick Canadian fuck Paul Bernardo. This guy is a sexual deviant -- not a sociopath. Now, people can be sexually deviant without killing and cutting up their victims. This guy knew what he was doing, liked it, and did it anyways. Yes, there was abuse in his past, so some might argue he needs therapy, blah, blah, blah. Personally, I have to draw the line somewhere. I would prefer that no further $$ gets put towards rehabilitating this fucker. Kill him. Slowly. I wish someone would Dahmer him.
