4. I love to work for developers that call me for a budget on a set of preliminary plans. Then they call back with the finished set and I give them a cheaper price than the budget and they are tickled to death and do not get any more prices. Those are the cherries.

No body will ever give you a retainer of any amount for bid work.
I just did a 10 thousand dollar skylight. That's just the piece that goes on the roof. I bid it to 5 different people. They were happy to provide budget pricing.

I'd have to draw the plans, and be paid for them, before even thinking about pricing it out. and before drawing the plans, I'd have to be paid a retainer.
this doesn't work in the commercial construction world. so be it. neither do I.

I was just pointing out that there are alot of big projects out there that he'll never have because of his attitude tward bid work. regardless of who it's for. When you want your ac/car/whatever fixed do you call around and get prices or do you just call somoeone and say charge me whatever you want?
