Actually, I've seen Audioslave and also got to see Rage. Audioslave put on a way better show than Soundgarden ever did. I think it has to do with Cornell just singing as opposed to playing and singing at the same time.
Rage was incredible.

i have a couple of live DVDs of their shows, its un-fucking-believable how the crowd just moves together in one constant motion (same thing at a Stripes concert i went to in OKC, pretty tight shit). their music is incredible, put together perfectly for live shows. its a shame they didn't tour much, but i think it was in part because of their feelings towards coorporate america exploiting their music and shows. Rage will always be my favorite of all time.

I hated Pearl Jam and Nirvana so much, I didn't give soundgarden much of a chance. It was a couple years later when I really listened to 'em and recognized the talent. Chris Cornell has an incredibly powerful voice.

His voice is so incredibly powerful that it formed a black hole that sucked the talent from the remaining members of Rage. And I hate him for that.
