Sandog. I just know he's got lots to tell.

Flumper Barflusterbutt Wrote:Well, based on that limited information, I am going to have to assume that you have been having trouble hitting serves long and are now trying to adjust your serve to keep that from happening. Players of average to below average height (which I think describes you), with a hard, flat serve must learn to barely clear the net to keep their serves from going long. Adding some topspin will increase your margin of clearance over the net to several times larger. The most preferred power serve among advanced players has a mix of topspin and slice.

If you meet the ball too low, it is like you are making yourself shorter, thus reducing the vertical angle from your racquet over the net to your target area. A low contact point also disrupts the upward whipping action you create at full extension. You should meet power serves at full upward extension.

Hitting some topspin on the serve will allow you to hit over the net by feet instead of by inches. Just as meeting the ball too low can make you hit long, it can also make you hit the net, because it reduces your margin of clearance over the net and disrupts the mechanics of a proper serve. You might be meeting the ball too far in front of yourself. Try tossing less forward or leaning in more just before you swing. You might be fooled by the illusion that you can hit down on a serve and get it over the net. You would have to be well over seven feet tall for this to be physically possible. Most of us have to hit up to get a serve in. If your toss peaks much higher than your point of contact, the ball will develop a significant downward vector as it descends toward your racquet. Try tossing no more than a few inches higher than your point of contact. Make sure to keep your head pointed upward until at least a split second afteryou've hit the ball. If you pull your head down too early, you'll pull your racquet down with it.

Good luck and I hope this helps. Post pics.

A tad wordy but not a bad answer. I was only kidding. My serve is perfect. I would like to see an answer thread in here by Ntype. That one would provide hours of entertainment.

This is not a question, btw.

My answer was wordy, because you did not give much information to go on. I had to address all possibilities.

Here was my short answer: Try hitting the ball a little higher.

Question: why are cars allowed to ride in bike lanes if bike lanes are for bikes?

Ask Flumper Anything - Flumper Barflusterbutt - 11-21-2005

Blueeyedwoman Wrote:Question: why are cars allowed to ride in bike lanes if bike lanes are for bikes?
The purpose of a bike lane is to designate what part of the road is for use by the bikes. Generally the bike lanes are placed at the far left of the lane, thereby limiting that as the only part of the road that the bikes may use. Generally, there is not enough roadway left to move traffic over so that the bike lane is not also used for the vehicle traffic.

If the bike trail is designated as a "hike and bike trail" with exclusive use by pedestrians, bicyclists or both, then vehicles are not to travel in those lanes, unless they are there to do maintenance.

did you mean right?
if not you are dyslexic

Flumper Barflusterbutt Wrote:No question, Leftneck is a fag.

You know me, I won't do anything if the thread passes the UJ thread. I do think that we need one of these threads going each week for another member of IT. This thread needs to die tomorrow, though.

this is the best thing to come out of this theard

I have made lots of holes, but have never found a corpse. I can't even think of a corpse related story I have ever been involved in.

I remember when I was young, there were some kids (older than me) that were arrested for digging up several caskets and doing some damage to the cemetery. I think there were four of them involved. They dug up one lady that had been dead about 2 weeks and had sex with her. The paper said that they pulled off her leg during the attack. I heard she was extremely obese, and wondered how they could have sex with a lady that was so fat.

Yeah. I guess you could say so. The guy was dead, but only very recently dead.

in the spirit of the third:

when is a corpse not a corpse?

Ask Flumper Anything - Flumper Barflusterbutt - 11-21-2005

snarg Wrote:in the spirit of the third:

Good question. Personally, I think a corpse becomes a corpse after all attempts have been given up to revive that person. In other words, at least after a doctor has called "time of death" or a coroner has called it a death. In addition, I still think it needs to have a certain amount of rigamortis to have set in. I feel like a corpse needs to be stiff and cold, not limp and still warm from recently being deceased.

But, technically, a corpse is a dead body, especially the dead body of a human.

Ask Flumper Anything - snarg - 11-21-2005

yeah, it is tricky
many a "dead" man has come back to life

i have been there
wanted to stay but was compelled to return
damn shame

you should have hired me and made me a part of a road somewhere

I could run your body through a lime mixer or road stabilizer. There are about 300 carbide teeth spinning on a drum. Works much like a garden tiller, only on a much much larger scale. The drum is about the size of a small car.

Ask Flumper Anything - snarg - 11-21-2005

that would leave nothing to chance
next time i get a chance to step off, i will get in touch
