Shadrach Wrote:Have you ever used a two man auger? If so, who was the second man?
Yes, many times. The last time I used one it was with my good friend and business partner. We were putting in the posts for a children's backyard playset. They are very efficient, but don't forget to call DigTess prior to drilling. You can cut through a gas line or buried electrical line before you know it.

1-800-DIG-TESS . Be safe.

Shadrach Wrote:As the bossman, what do you think your subordinates admire the most about you?
That I am fair and show respect to every employee regardless of their occupation. I do this by very carefully reviewing raises and bonuses to make sure that every person that works for me is making wages in relation to his value to the company, regardless of who he is working for or what crew he is on. I am available to help anyone with any problem, whether it relates to work or personal life. I probably hire an attorney at least once a week to handle something that has happened, from traffic tickets to divorces.

I recently went to the police station to talk a policeman into dropping theft charges against two of my employees that were ticketed by a policeman at 6:30 in the morning as they were loading some rock into their trunk from a pile on one of our jobsites. They couldn't speak enough english to explain to the redneck policeman that they worked on that job and the rock was waste rock with no value. I got him to drop the charges.

I loan them money at no charge. This is something that is very foreign to them, as they are used to being charged as much as 25% per week for a loan. I have to be careful to monitor how much they borrow so that they don't get themselves too extended. So far I have not had a problem.

I was on a jobsite the other day and a foreman told me that one of his best hands quit. He said that he and the employee had gotten into an argument over some damage the man had done to some asphalt while running a backhoe. As I drove back to the office, I passed the man walking down the side of the road. I stopped and picked him up. After riding with him for about an hour, I calmed him down. He did not want to lose his job, but he had a lot of pride. I took him back to the jobsite and got the foreman to let him come back to work. He will remember that because I didn't have to do it.

She was very hot and much more refined than me. I told her at 2:00 one morning in a taco bell that I was going to need her one day to help me know which fork to use.

Well, I don't know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but it is a beautiful day here. I say you make a list and then get everything done that you need to do.

You know, I actually don't know very much about Leeman, other than what I have seen on here. I have had very little contact with him. But, my view of him is that he is quite unique. I have never seen someone that apparently works so hard and spends his own cash to do something that he seems to care so little about. He never seems to get pissed about anything.

Even when Tom crashed the site and his expenses went up, he never seemed to get pissed. He is very interesting to say the least.

So, to answer your question, I do not hate Leeman. I guess I am still studying him.

I doubt seriously that you could do any of the jobs that I have. Most are extremely physical. I am almost certain that you could not perform on a concrete crew. Not only is it very physically demanding, but there is a certain amount of skill required for even the lowest job on the crew. Concrete finishers are quite talented.

You might could perform on one of the "dirt" crews. These crews perform the excavation, grading, lime stabilization, cement stabilization, flex base, etc. The jobs are not quite as physically demanding, but they require knowledge and experience operating heavy machinery. These jobs don't pay quite as much since they do not require quite as much in terms of performance.

The hours are long.

you underestimate snarg's talent and experience
i have built houses from the ground up
i have also worked with a concrete contractor
he was so punctilious that on a 200' sidewalk, he wanted it within one-eighth inch
i saw him pull 50' of forms when a radius was off 1/4 inch

maybe you are right, i guess i am unqualified
thanks for your kind consideration

See, I had no idea. The crews work about 50 to 70 hours per week. They start at the shop each morning at 6:30 and usually get back to the shop about 6:00 or 6:30 at night. Time and a half pay for overtime over 40 hours per week. We typically work a half a day on saturday. The concrete laborers start at about $7.50 per hour. Shovel and sledgehammer are the working tools.
