Stay the fuck away from Independence Hall around the 4th of July, unless of course you like lots and lots of sweaty tourists.
Do yourself a favor, if you want to see historic Philadelphia do it any other time of the year besides 4th of July.
P.S. - Seeing everything of interest regarding Philadelphia history should not take you much longer than 45 minutes.
