This would be true, however we do not know that he premeditated the attack on the woman or not. The article is not clear.

The scratching I just gave my sack was premeditated. So was that 1st degree molestation or what?

I found this:
http://www.criminaldefenseassociates.com/definitions
Manslaughter
The unlawful killing of a human being without malice aforethought.
Involuntary Manslaughter
Homicide in which there is no intention to kill or do grievous bodily harm, but that is committed with criminal negligence or during the commission of a crime not included within the felony-murder rule.
Voluntary manslaughter
An act of murder reduced to manslaughter because of extenuating circumstances such as adequate provocation (arousing the "heat of passion") or diminished capacity.

I think you're right when you say that thereâs a lot of potential overlap between manslaughter and homicide charges. Thatâs probably a good thing in many instances. It can give prosecutors some legal latitude to let people âoff the hookâ for acts which are technically murder, but are somewhat justifiable (like killing a child molester.)
There needs to be some means no legally navigate the tricky grey areas of life. Perhaps these loosely worded, overlapping and rather nebulous laws are a part of that.

Either that or you suck. I'm going with the latter.
